It had been a
long few months, a
tough few months, ever since everything had blown up with the Trossachs and if Teresa was being honest... she hadn't had a good night's sleep since. How could she when guilt weighed on her chest like a ton of bricks every time she closed her eyes, pushing down on it so hard it made it difficult to breath?
It was just that she had been so
stupid for getting involved with the pack in the first place. She'd been so desperate for a place to belong, to fit in, to feel
safe that she'd thrown all of her common sense out of the window. Seriously, how had it taken her so
long to figure out that the
monsters she'd been living with for
months were the ones responsible for her being bitten in the first place, and not the Cotswolds who she was residing with now? How had she once looked up to a woman who was capable of
stealing a baby? One who wouldn't flinch when she later nearly
beat her to death? She had gotten lucky that night, Teresa had, only
just managing to apparate away by a fluke.
Those were the thoughts that ran through Teresa's mind as she sat in front of the roaring fire pit in the Cotswolds camp, twisting her braids. She only broke free of them as an owl flew towards her, clutching a package in his talons, one with a tag attached say it was addressed to
Teresa. That was odd - who would send her something? The only person who knew where she was staying was her brother Theo, and that had been so he didn't worry about her whilst he stayed in the company with a friend.
Prying the package from the owl, Teresa made hasty work of unwrapping the simple ribbon around the box before lifting the lid only for her stomach to
drop because what laid in the box?
That was a fucking finger. One that was wearing Theo's signet
ring, the one passed down from their 'father' that he refused to take off even
after he had been disowned.
"Oh my..." Teresa's breathing grew heavy as she stared because it wasn't
just a finger wearing Theo's ring, it
was Theo's finger and... what...
who... a piece of parchment stuck out of the side of the box and slowly, Teresa lifted it, only for a sob to tear straight from her throat as she read the single word that had been written:
TRAITOR.
