With the capture of Verandi Farley and several high-ranking Trossach members, the British wizarding world has finally caught a break. The rate of rogue werewolf attacks have started dropping at a steady rate and, hopefully, things will stay that way. The Ministry is starting to loosen some restrictions, like not arresting werewolves standing on the street for loitering, however there’s still an obvious power imbalance between wizardfolk and werewolves.
The Cotswolds pack are continuing to advocate for the rights of werewolves and petitioning to change the legislation that has been set in motion by the current Minister for Magic, whilst the remaining Trossachs members are trying to stay out of the spotlight and keep a low profile… for now.
Whilst the British wizarding world seems to have calmed down, the same cannot be said for over in Northern Europe where a rebellion of magical creatures has risen. The state of things has gotten so bad that the European Ministry has enacted protocols to protect those under eighteen whilst their adult witches and wizards fight to keep control of their countries.
Students from Durmstrang have been sent to Hogwarts to keep them safe and those not old enough to attend school have been sent to live with relatives or designated British Ministry officials outside of Europe for the time being.
Will the low rates of werewolf attacks in Britain continue? How long will Durmstrang students stay at Hogwarts? Will the creatures usurp the wizardfolk in Northern Europe? Only time will tell.
SEPTEMBER 2019 It's been a very long, eventful summer in the wizarding world. A baby was stolen, several high ranking Trossach members were imprisoned, and werewolf attacks have drastically dropped as a result. What will happen now school has returned?
MAY 2019 An attempt to capture the beta of the Trossachs has been launched. Were the Aurors successful in their mission? Go read more here!
GENERAL Canon. We follow the Harry Potter book canon from the Philosopher's Stone to the Deathly Hallows. We do not include the Cursed Child as canon. Be respectful. Respect needs to be given to all members. We want this to be an inviting site and not one filled with drama. All conflict needs to be kept off the site and out of the discord. This point also extends to be inclusive - please try to interact, talk and thread with everyone on the board and the discord. Rating. This is a PG-13 site with a 212 rating. We do allow swearing here and mentions of drinking, drugs, etc. within reason. We don't allow graphic sexual scenes but if things get heated, please fade to black. We don't allow graphic violence e.g. abuse, however you can hint at it. Contacting staff. If one staff member is PMed it is likely that the other staff have been consulted, therefore an admin or mods answer is final. Member issues. When it comes to questions, disputes and misunderstandings, this will be resolved by the staff members. We try our very best to keep Sonorus an enjoyable site for everybody and we appreciate the cooperation of our members. Keep in mind, admins have the final word and if arguing commences, you may receive a warning. Accounts. We encourage you to have two types of accounts. An OOC account to create plotters, trackers, wanted ads, etc. and to post in other people's plotters, trackers, etc. and an IC account with your character’s name to post in threads with other characters and IC games. Your display name for IC accounts should be the character’s FIRST and LAST name in all CAPS, middle names are optional. No nicknames are permitted in the display name unless they strictly go by that name at all times. Applications. Only post your applications once finished. This makes it easier for everyone. If you're halfway through, then copy and paste into Google Docs or word so you can return to it later. Warnings. If you are continuously disrespectful, argumentative, etc. with site members, you will receive warnings from the staff. If you receive a third warning, you will be banned from the site and the discord.
CHARACTER CREATION No Mary Sues or Gary Stus. No character is perfect. People are complex. Everyone has positive and negative traits. Please keep this in mind whilst creating your character. Canon character offspring. We are currently allowing children of canon characters to be created. In the“The Main Canon” section, you can see which canon characters have children available to be created, i.e. it should state “children open” in the description. Please note that should you choose to create a child of a canon character, their name and D.O.B. will be integrated into the site canon for continuity purposes. Any proposed siblings and spouses will also be included. Student restrictions. If you are making students, we currently only allow two students per year per person, e.g. you may only have two sixth years. This is to ensure that we don't get an abundance of students in one year and that we are filling up the other years as well. Magical creatures. A third of your characters may be a magical creature e.g. a vampire, veela, etc. The only exception to this rule is if you wish to play a werewolf. With our current plot, you may play as many werewolves as you wish. Just remember that currently, Hogwarts does not accept students who are werewolves. Adult werewolves are currently unable to get a job in Hogwarts, the Ministry of Magic, etc. and are mostly unemployed, however a few may find employment at shops in Knockturn Alley. Magical abilities. A third of your characters may have a magical ability. There are some that are restricted. You can find which abilities are restricted here. Some abilities listed are heavily restricted. Only a third of your characters may have these abilities and players must at least 1 active character in play for three months before making a character with this ability.
ACTIVITY Character limit. Sonorus allows members to have up to a maximum of 25 characters. New character post requirements. If you have 3-5 characters, you must have at least one post from all of your characters in the last week before making a new character. If you have 6-20 characters, you must have at least two posts from all of your characters in the last week before making a new character. If you have 20+ characters, you must have at least three posts from all your characters in each of the last three weeks before making a new character. This is to ensure that all characters are kept active. New character waiting periods. When a member has 11-15 characters, they must wait 1 week before applying for a new one. When a member has 16+ characters, they must wait 2 weeks before making a new character. This is to ensure that activity needs are being met without rushed posts. If you delete a character outside of death or the activity checks, you must wait 2 weeks. Main canon characters. Main canons must be active. A month without activity will result in the staff reaching out to the member for further action.
CHARACTER RULES Consequences. If your character does something they could get into trouble for in real life e.g. interrupting a class, injuring another student, etc. there is a possibility of them getting detention, house points deducted, etc. by a Professor or a student who's a Prefect or Head Boy/Girl. Pregnancy. We do allow teenage pregnancy here with admin permission (please contact Bree, RoadRoo or Rose), however we suggest having your plot fully thought out before messaging admin. The pregnant character must be 16+ years old and pregnant to another character who is 16-18 years old. Student/teacher relationships. Student/teacher relationships are allowed with admin permission, however we suggest having your plot fully thought out before messaging admin. The student involved in this relationship must be 16+ and the professor will lose their job if they engage in a relationship with a student, they will face trouble finding a respectable job and they will no doubt face backlash from other characters as a result. Hogsmeade. Currently, the students are not permitted to go to Hogsmeade during the school term. You can set threads before IC December 2018 and past/future school break threads there however. Read Edition 1 of the Daily Prophet to find out why.
POSTING Tenses. Please use third person and past tense only. No godmodding. You cannot control the actions of a character which is not your own. This includes mind reading - you cannot read another character's mind, know secrets or information they have not told you, etc. Word count. Whilst we do not have a word count, please ensure that you are giving the person you post with enough to interact with content-wise. Comprehensible posts. Whilst we aren't too strict about spelling, your posts need to be legible. If your post is too difficult for other members to read and understand, you may be asked to edit it. Archiving. We archive threads into the pensieve when they have finished or if they have not been responded to within the last two months. Please contact staff if an archived thread is still going and they will move it back into the appropriate board.
GRAPHICS Avatar sizes. We have two avatars on profiles here. The one you upload is 150x150, but any square image should resize. You will see it when you hover over your character's profile. The large avatar that is visible all the time must be 250x250 and you need to copy and paste a direct link to the image in the 'Mini Profile Background' box when you edit your profile. Signature. For your signature, you can have images up to 500px width and 500px height. If you need any assistance with this, please let us know. Gifs are allowed. Hotlinking. No hotlinking is allowed. Upload to tinypic, imgur, nickpic, etc. instead of directly from the source.
