With the capture of Verandi Farley and several high-ranking Trossach members, the British wizarding world has finally caught a break. The rate of rogue werewolf attacks have started dropping at a steady rate and, hopefully, things will stay that way. The Ministry is starting to loosen some restrictions, like not arresting werewolves standing on the street for loitering, however there’s still an obvious power imbalance between wizardfolk and werewolves.
The Cotswolds pack are continuing to advocate for the rights of werewolves and petitioning to change the legislation that has been set in motion by the current Minister for Magic, whilst the remaining Trossachs members are trying to stay out of the spotlight and keep a low profile… for now.
Whilst the British wizarding world seems to have calmed down, the same cannot be said for over in Northern Europe where a rebellion of magical creatures has risen. The state of things has gotten so bad that the European Ministry has enacted protocols to protect those under eighteen whilst their adult witches and wizards fight to keep control of their countries.
Students from Durmstrang have been sent to Hogwarts to keep them safe and those not old enough to attend school have been sent to live with relatives or designated British Ministry officials outside of Europe for the time being.
Will the low rates of werewolf attacks in Britain continue? How long will Durmstrang students stay at Hogwarts? Will the creatures usurp the wizardfolk in Northern Europe? Only time will tell.
SEPTEMBER 2019 It's been a very long, eventful summer in the wizarding world. A baby was stolen, several high ranking Trossach members were imprisoned, and werewolf attacks have drastically dropped as a result. What will happen now school has returned?
MAY 2019 An attempt to capture the beta of the Trossachs has been launched. Were the Aurors successful in their mission? Go read more here!
This subject was a long way coming but it had to be done for these students to pass their exams. This time no brewing, this time no fun with the thought of making something out of it. As the students came in the silence Ariella preferred was soon going to be gone. Werewolves were a sore subject to many others here but this was a subject they need to know about. Ariella ran a hand through her hair before letting out a sigh and headed for the blackboard writing down a simple few words.
Wolfsbane Potion.
"As you will go through your final exams soon enough, you will have to know about this potion, its properties and most of all. It's dangers." she said and turned to face them. "As it's an advanced potion there is no way you will be able to brew it without getting poisoned by the smoke." she said and frowned for a moment. "As much as I would like to teach you all to brew it.. it's too much of a risk at this moment, during this time." she said and frowned. Not that she approved of it but they would be poisoned and she would be the reason why.
"Tell me what you know about the potion.." she started and eyed the class. "Female Longbottom." she chose and waited for the girl to answer. She motioned to the cauldron in the center. "Right there you will find a perfect brew of the potion if you wish to look at it before answering my question miss Longbottom."
water (500mL) wolfsbane ground up moonstone silver flakes
Boil the water on a low flame before adding the ground up moonstone. Stir it counter clockwise three times until the water turns into a faint white color, almost like it has a pearly shine to it. Once the potion is the right color add wolfsbane until the potion turns blue. Keep stirring while you add the wolfsbane! If the potion turns yellow, start over. Once the potion is the right color add some silver flakes until the smoke turns blue and the potion turns into a thicker substance. Rest the potion for 24 hours.

Potions was a class that, over the course of the year, Grace had growing anxiety about even stepping through the door to. It wasn't often that she said something like this but... she just didn't like the Professor because she always left class feeling high-strung and on edge and like she needed to take a calming draught.
One thing that seemed to fuel her anxiety the most was the fact that when she was addressed in class or spoke up to say something, she was looked at or spoken to like she was a dimwit. Like she had said the silliest thing in the world, and that? Making a complete and utter fool of herself in front of her peers? It made Grace's entire body thrum with nervousness, and she wanted to crawl under the table out of sheer embarrassment out of saying something so stupid.
Taking a seat at the table beside Emil, Grace sent the other boy a small smile before freezing because... was that bizarre to... they'd kissed at that party. It had been short and sweet, but... it hadn't messed up their friendship, right? "Hi. How are you?" she whispered, testing the waters as she set up her desk.
Then she heard the strong voice of the Professor and instantly, she was shifting in her seat to try and get comfortable - something she was never these days in this class, and today was no different. Wolfsbane turned out to be the topic of the day and immediately, Grace's lips pulled into a frown because she knew so many people who yearned for this potion, and yet... they couldn't scrape up enough money for a new shirt, let alone a rare and expensive potion that would change their lives dramatically. It... got under her skin that it was just so unavailable to the people who needed it the most.
Professor Tyrell practically... ordered them to tell her the potion, and yet whilst she would have readily raised her hand up to share, Grace was put on the spot. Female Longbottom. Female Longbottom? A dose of annoyance combined with anger crawled beneath her skin - both feelings that she very rarely felt. But to be addressed like that? To not even be called by her first name or by 'miss' or... it was so flippant and rude. It felt like a slap to the face considering just how hard she'd worked throughout the year, and Grace didn't like it. It hurt her feeling. Normally, Grace would sit all meek and quiet, but today? Today she was worked up enough with everything she'd endured in this class throughout the year that she grew a very small backbone. "My name is Grace," she said, voice tight as a flush worked it's way up her chest, "and the male Longbottom's name is Arthur."
Shifting in her chair once more, Grace's hands curled in her lap. Just focus, Grace. Ignore her. "Wolfsbane is a potion that helps werewolves keep their human minds when they transform. It makes them aware of what they're doing, so they can control their own actions," she answered, biting the inside of her cheek because there was so much more she wanted to say to this Professor but she wouldn't. Mostly because she had no more nerve to speak up, but also because she had to take classes with her next year. Whilst she wouldn't get in trouble for correcting a Professor on her name, she'd very likely get in trouble if she were to tell the woman that she was either the rudest person she knew, or she just very forgetful if she couldn't manage to remember the names which had been written at the top of all those long essays Professor Tyrell had been assigning them all year.
Potions class was the last class Elijah wanted to attend, not really liking how some of these lessons end on either a student being kicked out of class or someone crying. Either way, Elijah was glad that this was his last year at Hogwarts, and he was actually quite proud of his grades. Perhaps it was because he wasn’t doing what he normally did in the past several years, sleeping his way through and having his sister help him with his essays. The male knew it annoyed his sister back in the day, but now she can take a break and enjoy her engagement.
When the professor had mentioned that they’d be discussing Wolfsbane, his eyes lit up and he glanced toward his sister. Now this was going to hold his interest because he knew damn well people who had werewolf family members would want to get their hands on this stuff. It was rare and it wasn’t cheap at all.
What annoyed Elijah was when Professor Tyrell had used female instead of Miss or her first name. It made him bite the inside of his cheek and he let out a low grumble. ”Why is she always rude?” he whispered to his neighbor, shaking his head.
Goddamn, he wanted this class to go smoothly. open to interactions
Morgan had been trying not to stress about the upcoming exams, knowing that she had everything covered and a girlfriend that supported her. Even though it was going to be another full school year before she’d be free from the hell home called Hogwarts, she was going to full on focus about it. Even if she was newly engaged, she wasn’t going to plan the wedding until all her homework was done and goddamn she hoped the ban on Hogsmeade is lifted by the next school year or she’s going to go bonkers. She needed to see Ryker, she needed to have some private time with her fiancee.
Morgan had taken a seat next to the woman in question, her hand grabbing hers and holding it because Potions class had caused her a lot of stress in the past. ”Let’s just get this damn class over with…” she told her fiancee quietly before the professor had started the lesson. When she heard the word wolfsbane, Morgan turned her attention toward the professor and then at everyone else. Well, this was something that she can handle.
The redhead felt her mouth go dry as she heard the professor ask Grace to answer the question - rudely. Her eyebrows raised when it seemed like the Hufflepuff grew a backbone and spoke back at the professor, clearly annoyed. Morgan was impressed with this, glancing at Ryker with raised eyebrows and an amused smile.
All year Oswald had been paying extra attention in this class because of the person who was currently teaching it. His sister. Even though he didn't address her as his sister during active class times, he didn't want to slack off because of this. The male had learned a lot from her over the years, watching her and their father at times. The male was a proud brother, and he showed it as he sat in the front of the classroom when she addressed the class. His eyes fell onto the brew potion near her, smiling a bit knowing that she worked her ass off on these potions before every class.
Of course when she addressed Grace as Female Longbottom, it made the male wince because he knew she knew better than to be rude to the class. He'd talk to her after class about this but for now he was going to behave himself and wait for whatever came next after Grace's answer to the professor.
He eyed Ariella, his expression going be nice, sister before he had glanced back down at the book in front of him.

Potions class was the most normal thing in the world for people who weren't Scarlett. For Scarlett it was making her nauseous and wanting to die inside. Still she needed to pass this in order to graduate and get the hell out of here. The brunette just kept to herself as she was seated in the back, holding her head high and her posture as galant as usual. No one was any wiser about her condition, she had hidden it well and there was nothing anyone could do about it. Her perfectly well kept eyebrow arched a bit as the class evolved into a small discussion.

The fact that miss Longbottom had the guts to stand up for herself was quite refreshing and Ariella knew the girl had some backbone if she was pushed into the right direction. But here was the thing about it all, she didn't care whether or not she knew their names because soon they'd be gone and there would be classes full of new people to annoy her so what was the point? Still the brunette just looked unimpressed when Grace corrected her and then answered her question.
"Well done. Five points to Hufflepuff.." she said and frowned. "Now this potion is actually quite rare and often found on the black market. Can anyone tell me the problem with black market wolfsbane potions?" she asked them and eyed the cauldron for a moment. This potion was quite tough to make and Ariella of course would have taught them this if she were allowed to. So many kids here were wounded by the werewolf uprising, the ministry crushing their souls.
"Can anyone name the key ingredients to this potion and the reason why it's so hard to get?" she asked and looked at them all, her eyes meeting her brother's who she ignored like everyone else.
Ryker wasn't having the best few days and she was still going to have to go to detention for what she did to Sienna. Sure the bitch had it coming but the professor was right, she was technically an adult and could've gotten in worse trouble for doing what she did. The girl had been lacking sleep and if there weren't spells to keep herself from looking like the wreck she was inside, she surely would be in a lot of trouble once more. Ryker was seated beside the fiancee her cousin threatened not long ago and just sighed as the class started.
Ryker squeezed Morgan's hand gently with her own and arched her brow. "Wolfsbane.." she whispered to herself more than anything. This lesson was quite interesting and Ryker eyed the professor who spoke up. She ignored whatever happened with Grace and just stared at the potion. "Black market potions are often fake or weaker versions of the real deal. Some say they're even toxic to werewolves rather than helpful." Ryker said and arched her brow slowly. She needed to get those people off the streets, this was going to hurt people.

Ah, the Wolfsbane Potion. As if Nadya hadn't known the recipe for this for years now--not that she had ever tried to make it, for the very reason she was about to add. She raised her hand. "The main ingredient--wolfsbane, of course, also called aconite--is extremely poisonous. Hence the name." There was some out in the greenhouses, some even planted by herself along with the small girl Flora, and she was familiar with the amount of care one had to take around the plants. She didn't even touch them without gloves. "On the black market, you don't know if the potioneer has brewed it properly. You drink it, and you'll simply suffocate where you stand." A danger some were willing to accept, she knew.
"Besides, the proper potion should also contain silver." A metal not as expensive as gold, but certainly not cheap, as Nadya knew from buying her own silver jewelry. "If you're getting it cheap, it might not actually have that." And might be a poison, as so many potions were without the proper preparation. Nadya had never liked making them, the dungeons dark and stifling and the recipes requiring her to stare at books for so long, but it was the only way to make them correctly. She glanced over at Scarlett next to her, trying to judge her reaction.
all i really want is to be wonderful/people in this town, they can be so cruel

Potions was, if not the best, then at least one of Isobel's best subjects. She was never quite sure if she had a real talent for it or if it was just growing up around her mother's craft, but it was something she knew well. For all that she preferred not to get dirt and blood under her nails, she was good at recognizing jars of ingredients and cutting them up as delicately as any artist should.
But the Wolfsbane Potion, that was something she was less familiar with. There was no reason why she should ever have seen it before--there were no werewolves where she was from. On the island there was only her family and the animals, and it wasn't as if they could raise sheep if they were wolves. Two things, completely opposed to each other. No, there were no werewolves at home, and no reason for Mum to ever brew this potion, with various more pressing issues to attend to.
Still, she could offer an insight or two into the concept of rare potions. "There's quite a few potions that are rare, because they're very hard to brew. Felix Felicis, for one--and Wolfsbane, as well, of course. It's their powerful effects that make them so difficult to create, but it's also why people are willing to buy them on the black market."

These dangers needed to be taken seriously and Ariella was here for it. She wanted to tell them about these dangers because with the desperation of these students, there was only a matter of time until they start brewing their own wolfsbane, poisoning their own loved ones with it. The woman nodded at the three girls, they all hand points and she was glad some people at least were aware of the situation at hand. There was no point on whether or not she had to be NICE to students, there was a point of making them aware how dangerous this craft is.
"Five points to each of you." she told the three girls before grabbing four vials, four dangerous substances, or so they might think and placed them on the table with the cauldron beside it. "In these vials you will find exactly what the problem is." she said and eyed the students. "Who wants to guess what are in these vials? You can come up here and tell me but only by looking at it. There is no opening the vials because you don't know what the smell of some can do to you."
