With the capture of Verandi Farley and several high-ranking Trossach members, the British wizarding world has finally caught a break. The rate of rogue werewolf attacks have started dropping at a steady rate and, hopefully, things will stay that way. The Ministry is starting to loosen some restrictions, like not arresting werewolves standing on the street for loitering, however there’s still an obvious power imbalance between wizardfolk and werewolves.
The Cotswolds pack are continuing to advocate for the rights of werewolves and petitioning to change the legislation that has been set in motion by the current Minister for Magic, whilst the remaining Trossachs members are trying to stay out of the spotlight and keep a low profile… for now.
Whilst the British wizarding world seems to have calmed down, the same cannot be said for over in Northern Europe where a rebellion of magical creatures has risen. The state of things has gotten so bad that the European Ministry has enacted protocols to protect those under eighteen whilst their adult witches and wizards fight to keep control of their countries.
Students from Durmstrang have been sent to Hogwarts to keep them safe and those not old enough to attend school have been sent to live with relatives or designated British Ministry officials outside of Europe for the time being.
Will the low rates of werewolf attacks in Britain continue? How long will Durmstrang students stay at Hogwarts? Will the creatures usurp the wizardfolk in Northern Europe? Only time will tell.
SEPTEMBER 2019 It's been a very long, eventful summer in the wizarding world. A baby was stolen, several high ranking Trossach members were imprisoned, and werewolf attacks have drastically dropped as a result. What will happen now school has returned?

Ah, the Slytherin common room, home of the snakes for a thousand years. Grand decorations, beautiful furniture, cozy fire...
And perhaps Nadya's least favorite place in the castle.
If the sensation of being underwater every time she wanted to sleep wasn't bad enough, her Housemates surely were. It was said that Slytherins tended to form tight bonds of friendship or love, but looking around at most everyone she knew, Nadya was not sure where that reputation had come from. There were a few who clung to each other, but Nadya felt it had to be at least somewhat fake. After all, the sheer amount of obnoxious in the dungeon would drive her out any day, not to mention the talk she heard from some of them about her half-blood father and veela mother. Was it really so difficult to believe that beings were just as intelligent as witches and wizards?
The joke would be on them when she could charm them and break their hearts. Although both her sisters were better at that than Nadya was, and the middle Kareva felt that she would not have quite the charisma for it, were it not for her veela blood. Still, there was a certain satisfaction in flaunting it in front of the purebloods, with no intention of ever touching someone she didn't actually like.
In front of the crackling fire, which lifted the dark mood of the dungeon a bit, Nadya sat on one of the leather sofas with bare feet and her legs tucked under her, blonde hair loose, as she worked on a Transfiguration essay. For now there was nobody to bother her, but she had started to notice more and more people entering the common room for the evening, and she prepared mentally to have to pack up her parchment and find a more isolated place for the night. Gripping her quill tighter, she hoped she could simply finish this awful essay in the awful dungeon in peace.
If one were smart, and wanted peace - being around Oswald Tyrell wasn't going to get you anywhere close to that. The male thought he run the place, having the money to pay some people off and being the bully he had been for many years. Perhaps he should cool it, turn over a new leaf and actually be friendly to those around him instead of making them kiss his feet or his ring. The ring of a snake on his middle finger was a family heirloom. Most of the Tyrell's would wear it with pride, like Ozzy himself. His sister Parker also wore it on the same finger. The Tyrell's were a family of money, family of influence and some people feared them. Which they should. The sketchy business their father was in, and the money they made because of it. There had been rumors that people disappeared for disrespecting any of the Tyrell's.
Most of those were true but Ozzy was never one to share his family secrets. Not even with his closest friends. You can never trust someone outside the family. They had people working for them, but they didn't know the actual dark side of the Tyrell family.
This evening of all evenings, Ozzy Tyrell had walked into the common room, looking a little annoyed. His right hand gripping onto his book bag so tight that his knuckles were turning white. Why was he annoyed? Maybe it was because of the the letter he just gotten from is father, the first one in a long time. There were no updates on Peter. The guilt was continuing to eat him alive after his father had yet again blamed him for his brother's disappearance.
There was a few deep breaths as he looked around, tossing the bag down onto the floor near the couch in front of the fire and he flopped down. His eyes straight ahead. It was unusual of Oswald Tyrell to be this quiet.

Nadya had absolutely no use for the likes of Ozzy Tyrell. The only time she would ever pretend to like such an arrogant ass of a person was if she needed to ingratiate herself with the Potions professor for some reason--but seeing as Nadya did not, in general, like to do anything that could be described as ingratiating herself with anyone, there wasn't much reason for her to do more than put up with him. She wasn't even sure that the two siblings even liked each other, after all. Could anyone really like someone like him? So put up with him she did, because being in the same house and year meant they'd had nearly all of their classes together. And yes, it had been just as bad as she'd predicted ever since they'd first met. Why had nobody ever told him that he was probably the only person in the world to care about his "family name?"
In truth, they probably had, and he just hadn't cared. That was the vibe Nadya got, and she didn't like it one bit.
So when he plopped next to her in front of the fire like a sad sack of potatoes, the Russian girl was far more inclined to scowl and wrinkle her nose at him than offer any help. This was exactly the kind of person she'd been hoping wouldn't bother her, and just because he hadn't started in on some nauseating attempt at flirting in between his various other awful opinions didn't mean it wouldn't happen at any time. What was the best way to get him out of the general vicinity?
"You're blocking my fire," she said, eyes narrowed. If he didn't know better than to leave her alone by now, she could start a fight any day.
A part of Ozzy wanted to go out there, searching for his brother instead of being there at Hogwarts and trying to make his father proud of him. He knew damn well that was going to be a miracle if his father even said those words about his eldest son. Ozzy never even got the approval of some of the things he suggested for the family business because the family business wasn't going to be his if his old man died. It was wishful thinking, but he knew damn well once Samuel Tyrell dies, the business would go to his eldest child and that happened to be Ariella. The only sibling Oswald truly cared about. The others were bastards, and didn't matter to him entirely.
There was silence for a few moments before he heard the girl next to him speak, and he scoffed at her. "Your fire? I'm sorry. I didn't see your name on it, your Royal Highness." he said, sarcasm in his voice and he didn't even bother to move. No, he wasn't going to move unless she physically forced him too.
He wasn't in a mood to pick a fight with this bitch.

As the daughter of a rather mundane Ministry official--even if the work Ivan did was anything but--Nadya had not grown up in a life of any particular luxury. The Karevs had lived in a small Moscow apartment when she was little, a small London apartment when she was a little older, a slightly larger but still fairly small London apartment now, where she still had to share a room with her sister. She herself had no issues with life in the outdoors, as well, preferring a tree to a chair most times, and yet none of this had convinced her that the Slytherin dungeon was acceptable. She was cold and unhappy, and if that meant she had to snark at her least favorite classmate to make him go away, that could only be an improvement on the situation.
"Yes, mine, because I was using it first." Her quill hovered above the parchment, her concentration on the essay broken. Should've stretched my legs across the whole couch, she thought, wishing she'd been more clear that she would rather not be bothered.
But Ozzy being Ozzy, Nadya assumed that he wouldn't even pretend to care. In her eyes, he was in the common room specifically to annoy her, probably to flirt with her, which she only put up with to a point, only for as long as it would frustrate him to do it. "At least I look good enough to be a princess."
Oswald glanced over at Nadya with a little amused look on his facial features. Nope, he wasn't going to remove himself from that couch because she was their first. He could care less if she was, because this fire was here for everyone who lived in this house. But like stated before, he wasn't in the mood to argue with the dumb bitch, in fact he was in the mood for other things he knows he wasn't going to get from her. Ever since he came back to Hogwarts, he hadn't managed to get a girl to even kiss him because he was busy grieving over the loss over the only brother he cared about.
"And yet here I am. Sitting on the couch, in the Slytherin Common Room next to a girl who thinks she owns the very fire from that fireplace." he nodded toward the fire as to gesture toward it. "Honey, you can say anything you want but I'm not leaving this couch unless you physically move me. And by the looks of it, you can't even lift me with your figure. Magic is cheating for your information."

Cute. He wanted her to fight him, which Nadya assumed was only because he wanted her to touch him. He was always like this, but she wasn't about to make this so easy, nor was she going to back down. It wasn't in the Russian girl's nature to give up her stubbornness, even for something as small as this, even when she didn't even want to be in the common room that much anyway. When she'd already wanted to leave, the very act of Ozzy sitting on the couch had convinced her that she needed it for herself.
So she would keep it for herself. Maturity be damned; it wasn't like he was being any better.
"A pureblood who thinks magic is cheating? Call the Daily Prophet, I've got breaking news for them." How perfect, he'd given her an opening to make fun of all arrogant purebloods instead of just one! That might have been a little bit dangerous to say in the midst of Slytherin House, but she liked to think that anyone overhearing would know better by now. To be nice, she left out the comment about her figure. She knew that, despite her height, she was still rather thin, which would be lovely if she wanted to be a model. As it was, she was more interested in whether she would break her fingers if she ever punched Ozzy. She liked to think she'd never have to resort to that, hoping he would never give her a good reason to try. Besides, shouldn't she just be able to throw fire in his face? Now that was a nice thought... No, she wasn't that cruel. Just cruel enough to continue to provoke him.
Truth be told, Oswald knew the words about her figure was rather rude, and he would regret those words later on. He wasn’t one to body shame someone, even if they made it easy to do so. His girlfriend (yes, he had one) would not approve of this at all, and even question if he was worth dating. The only woman that can keep him from turning into a complete asshole, was her and she wasn’t at Hogwarts due to the age difference between them. She was a working adult, and he respected it. Perhaps he should try and behave himself, it was the least he can do and the last thing he wanted was to get into trouble with a stupid professor.
When she made a jab at his blood, he had made a face and he shifted on the couch, resting his arm on the back, and leaned on it as he eyed the Russian female beside him. This was rather entertaining, and it showed on his features.
”Well, I mean what happened to good old fashioned fists? I know you have it in you, sweetheart.” he winked and smirked at the girl. ”You can hex me, but I don’t think you’d want to do that. You can’t really harm a Tyrell. If you did, well, you wouldn’t be here right now.”

There were far more frightening people to be threatened by than Ozzy Tyrell. Nadya could perhaps have been intimidated by his sister, if only because she had the power to make or break her grades and chances at a future career, but not by her classmate. She'd met Ozzy as an itty first year, was as tall as him now anyway. And far more cultured, if his threats of a fistfight were anything to go by. Proof that money did not buy class, it seemed. Not that anyone had to tell Nadya that, when it came to Ozzy.
"I'm not your sweetheart, never have been," she said, irritation rising even as her voice remained steady. "I'm sure there's a girl somewhere in the world that would put up with you, but there's not one here." She put down her quill, finally admitting to herself that no more progress was about to be made that night. Parchment set aside, she stretched out her legs just as far as they would go without having to touch him and crossed her arms.
While Nadya had never been in a fistfight, she could feel the urge to do something against him bubbling in her. Maybe it was the piece of her that tried to turn into a harpy when angry (and mostly just came out with a few unsightly feathers and scales), or maybe it was just how insufferable Ozzy was. "Think I've never hexed anyone before? I think you can't see beyond a pretty face."
Oswald would love to believe that he was protected, and he sorta was. If someone were to harm him, his sister would make sure the person would disappear. It’s why some people had feared him, and avoided getting into trouble with the Slytherin boy - no one wanted to disappear after all. There had been a few articles in the newspaper, stating about disappearances of people who had worked for the Tyrell’s once upon a time. His father was careful not to get his hands dirty, but he had pulled strings to get his way. Get his people to take someone out without much of a blink of an eye.
”Oh, I believed you have hexed someone once upon a time.” he said, clicking his tongue and tapping his fingers on the back of the couch as he gave it some thought. ”You don’t want to test it on me though, trust me. Cause you see, my sister and I are close, and she is very protective of me despite my…actions in the past few weeks. If anyone harmed me, she will know about it. I’m sure you want to graduate and have a beautiful career.” he said, eyeing her legs for a moment.
”Speaking of careers, what did you have in mind after you get out of this hellhole?”

Her career? Why did he care? Either to laugh at it or make some half-baked plan to destroy it, Nadya didn't know, but those were the only two reasons she could come up with that Ozzy might have some sort of interest in knowing her plans. Whichever one it was, she had no desire to tell him the truth. If it turned out that she couldn't pull off the N.E.W.T. scores to become a healer, she wouldn't be able to stand whatever comments he would make about it. And with how this Transfiguration essay was going (or more like how it wasn't), that was a real worry in Nadya's mind.
"And it matters to you because?" she asked. "Getting your sister to stand in my way for fun, perhaps? Telling me how much better your trust fund must be than my actual work?" Her Papa might have finally made it up the ranks of the Ministry recently, but there were certainly no secret piles of money waiting for the Kareva girls. If her grandmother's family happened to have anything like that, they wouldn't be going to her, Nadya knew.
But unlike Ozzy, she could take pride in knowing she had goals and morals. If she did make it into St. Mungo's, she'd be able to find out who'd been bitten and help them out from the start. To do that, though, she needed a good enough grade in Ozzy's sister's class.
This still did not make her want to be nice to him. "So you've got some plan to do what? Shady dealings in Knockturn Alley?"
Oswald Tyrell wasn’t one to stand in the way of someone’s future, or make things hell for them to achieve their goals. But no one really trusted Ozzy, did they? He didn’t blame them as he was a resident asshole for the past several years, and had gone overboard with his bullying or even threatening someone once or twice. Did he go through with those threats? No. His father would have had his head, and the eldest son of Samuel Tyrell didn’t want to die at a young age. His sister could suddenly drop dead, and he’d have to be the next in line for his family business. There was a moment in his life where he wished his father had chosen him to be his heir, and not his sister but truth be told; Ariella had done more for the family than Ozzy himself had. And maybe she was Samuel’s favorite child.
”A lot of people think so little of me. I don’t blame them at all.” he had stated as he adjusted a bit in his spot to look at his classmate better. ”I would never mess with someone’s future. That’s not my thing, princess.” he said, smiling a bit as he thought about it.
”You wound me.” he paused for a moment as he looked at his own hand for a moment. ”Right now my future is up in the air.”
