With the capture of Verandi Farley and several high-ranking Trossach members, the British wizarding world has finally caught a break. The rate of rogue werewolf attacks have started dropping at a steady rate and, hopefully, things will stay that way. The Ministry is starting to loosen some restrictions, like not arresting werewolves standing on the street for loitering, however there’s still an obvious power imbalance between wizardfolk and werewolves.
The Cotswolds pack are continuing to advocate for the rights of werewolves and petitioning to change the legislation that has been set in motion by the current Minister for Magic, whilst the remaining Trossachs members are trying to stay out of the spotlight and keep a low profile… for now.
Whilst the British wizarding world seems to have calmed down, the same cannot be said for over in Northern Europe where a rebellion of magical creatures has risen. The state of things has gotten so bad that the European Ministry has enacted protocols to protect those under eighteen whilst their adult witches and wizards fight to keep control of their countries.
Students from Durmstrang have been sent to Hogwarts to keep them safe and those not old enough to attend school have been sent to live with relatives or designated British Ministry officials outside of Europe for the time being.
Will the low rates of werewolf attacks in Britain continue? How long will Durmstrang students stay at Hogwarts? Will the creatures usurp the wizardfolk in Northern Europe? Only time will tell.
SEPTEMBER 2019 It's been a very long, eventful summer in the wizarding world. A baby was stolen, several high ranking Trossach members were imprisoned, and werewolf attacks have drastically dropped as a result. What will happen now school has returned?
MAY 2019 An attempt to capture the beta of the Trossachs has been launched. Were the Aurors successful in their mission? Go read more here!
With the recent attack on the prominent wizarding hospital, St. Mungo's, Zoe had been struck with how perhaps her students needed to learn about muggle hospitals and medicine. Whilst no doctor she'd ever come across knew about Dragon Pox, their work on the human body was nothing short of magical in Zoe's eyes. Growing up, Zoe had loved getting special bandaids when she fell over and scraped her knees but as an adult, in control of her magic, had a spell that could solve even a broken nose within moments. Had any of the British wizards, other than muggle borns, even seen a bandaid?
"Good afternoon guys, today we're going to play Doctors and Nurses," Zoe began as the teenagers shuffled into her classroom. As almost always, the day was mild enough for the windows to be open but the desks were in their normal positions. On a cupboard near the front sat two very large First Aid kits as well as two Resuscitation Annie dolls. "I know many of you are probably shocked with what happened at St Mungo's, and we will not be discussing the tragic circumstances in this classroom. However, I wanted to know if any one of you have ever visited a muggle hospital? One of the largest in England is St George's in London and its capacity of 1,300 people - that's approximately 1.5 times the population of this school and that's just the patients. Muggle healers are called Doctors and Nurses and their field of study is science."
Zoe took a pause and smiled from behind her desk, "if anyone has had an experience at a hospital and would like to share it with the class, we're all ears."

Biting her bottom lip as she entered the classroom, Grace looked at the several people who'd she'd spent a rather... interesting night with at a party hosted by Matheus not too long ago. There was Zoë who she'd literally moaned into the mouth of, Emilian who had mounted Willy's lap in an impressive show and Rodrik who had not kissed anyone at all... although he'd received a rather sweet top-of-the-head kiss from Lyuba.
There were other people in the room too who had not attended the party including Mavican, Jonah and Kaylie, and Grace wondered... just how much they may have heard about the party itself. Did they know about what she'd gotten up to with her peers? Were they judging her? The thought brought a tinge of pink to Grace's cheeks and after wondering whether it was best to sit with those she'd attended the party with, or those who'd heard possible rumours about the party... she went with the former. For some reason, it seemed like the better option.
Taking a seat next to Rodrik, Grace's fingers flew to the end of her hair."I... hi, how... how are you? Are you well? Are you... you're not... I'm really -" Incomprehensible right now apparently. "I'm sorry I didn't talk to you more the other night, I was..." Busy. "I hope you... you had fun though. Did you?" Before Grace could ask anymore questions, Professor Savage was at the front and she drew quiet on principle. It was rude to talk when a Professor was trying to spark a discussion.
As it turned out, Grace couldn't contribute to the discussion at hand. She'd never visited a muggle hospital... gosh, she'd never really visited the muggle world in general. Her parents had both grown up in the wizarding world, so there wasn't much reason for them to step into the muggle world itself. She'd been to St. Mungos plenty of times however.
To say that Rodrik was grumpy was to say nothing at all. Today there was very little trace of his usual 'Free Hugs' self -- the only thing you might get for free was a rather tired squint and a thin-lipped frown. This didn't seem to stop Grace approaching him and asking him questions about the damn party that was the reason for Rodrik's change of... Well, everything.
"Fun? No such thing as fun, " he said quietly, settling in his seat and putting his elbows on the desk, resting his chin on his hands and staring blankly at the teacher. "I'm sure you had a great time with Valentino," there was no real trace of emotion in his voice -- Rodrik was like a animated cardboard box.
Rodrik was a pureblood and all, but every so often he could contribute to Prof. Savage's classes in a way that wasn't just sighing in awe at how inventive muggles could be.
"My Pa, he used to work in the Accidental Magic Reversal Squad, and one time something went terribly wrong," he said, his voice still lacking emotion, "He got sent to Saint Mungos. There was a healer there who insisted on sending Pa to a muggle hospital. They amputated both of his legs there, and gave him a wheelchair."
Jonah had come from a Pureblood family with little knowledge of the Muggle World until his grandfather had taken him out into their world and he had fallen in love with the things he had seen. He loved Muggles, sometimes would find himself interacting with them during his summer holidays (much to his father's dismay) - his father was a judgmental asshole who didn’t want to know about the others. But they were all, mostly human just like the Muggles and he wasn’t against knowing them despite his father’s negative attitude. May the man rest in peace.
Jonah had sat down at the desk right next to his sisters girlfriend and he gave her a tiny smile when the professor brought up the subject of today’s lesson. He looked straight at the professor in the front and he couldn’t help but smile.
He had brought his hand up and smiling a bit more. ”I wasn’t a patient. But I grew up with Muggle neighbors, one of whom I’m friends with. His grandfather was in a Muggle hospital due...to cancer. I have visited the man several times and they had all these kinds of machines.” he shared, leaning forward on his desk. ”Sadly the old man didn’t beat his disease but to me, the staff did a great job despite what happened.” he said, smiling a little bit.

Muggle studies, more plain and boring than Kaylie thought it would be and yet she knew most of the shit about it so it was an easy pass. Easy enough for her to not having to study so hard or bother with it. Kaylie was playing with a lock of her hair and frowned as her eyes laid upon Grace who looked more nervous than usual. Was it because of that stupid kissing game she attended as well? Kaylie didn't bother with such a thing as every single guy trying to kiss her would be neutered at the spot.
And as for the girls, well if she wanted to be kissed by different ladies she would be single. Kaylie thought it was quite the logical thought but she could understand why there were hesitations as her own girlfriend did attend the so called party. Kaylie just shrugged it off because that night was very... physical for her. She licked her pink lips as the professor started the class, talking about hospitals. Now that was a subject she could talk about all day long. Because of her own abusive mother, Kaylie had been in the hospital plenty of times.
"Oh you know, the waiting area is a pain in the arse but the medical staff will believe any stupid excuse my mother feeds them to explain my injuries. All together the hospital is where I spend most of my holidays." she said with a smile and let out a chuckle for a second. "Their food is disgusting though. Even the pudding."

Mavican was seated behind Grace and did hear about the fancy party of kissing each other the other day. Mavican would have gone if she wasn't quite busy herself and she hoped the class would talk about something that belonged to muggle studies. She had to start working harder, do better just to prove herself that she was worth more than the average prostitute. With a frown she listened to the answers about hospitals and Mavican rose her hand slightly.
"I wanted to be a doctor when I was a little girl.. before I knew magic. My parents always watched these doctor shows.. what's it called.. House?" she thought about it for a moment. "He was brilliant." she then looked back at her notes. "I had to go to the hospital once, I got sick in the cold. The emergency room is quite insane, so many things happen at once there. Have you ever been to one professor?"
Zoe was glad to hear the students begin to share their experiences of the muggle hospitals starting with poor Papa Belanger who had tragically lost his legs. Honestly, what did the wizards in this country get up to that this was the first story off the bat? Zoe's face twisted into one of painful compassion for Rodrik as she listened. "Gosh, Rodrik, that sounds like a horrific experience - how has your Pa recovered? I imagine he probably made a much more speedy recovery than most amputees, given St Mungo's would probably have taken over his care post-operation once more? Did you visit him in the hospital?"
Next, young Mr Stevens shared his story about visiting a neighbour in the palliative care ward. "I'm sorry to hear about your friend's - and yours, of course - loss Jonah. Cancer is a very hard disease for anyone to beat, but it's good that you could be there for your friend during that time. Often muggles can prolong life with the use of these machines - like the respirator that mechanically fills a person's lungs with air while the doctors wait for the brain to function properly again. I imagine your friend's grandfather probably didn't have that machine - that's typically more involved in trauma-type cases whereas patients with cancer are 'made comfortable' with intraveinous drips connected to bags with medicine in them. Do you remember the names of any of the machines you saw?"
When Kaylie Rousseau began her story about the emergency department - more commonly known as Accident and Emergency in Australia and she imagined in England also - Zoe had a hard time working to keep her face from exhibiting the worried frown that wanted to creep to the surface. She made a note on her writing pad in biro to follow up about the abuse Kaylie was hinting at because it was not a discussion to be had in front of other students. "Unfortunately the waiting rooms can be slow because the nurses have to do what is termed 'triage' meaning they do not work on a 'first come, first serve' situation but more 'who's life is most in danger right now?' so depending on your injuries, it can really mean a long wait. A student nurse friend that I lived with while attending uni back in Australia used to get upset that people came into the A&E because they had a cold ... because muggles don't have the pepperup potion, for example, to make them feel better quickly," Zoe gave Kaylie a small smile, hopeful that she would not mind that the teacher had moved the conversation away from probable abuse.
"Oh muggles love medical dramas... there's House, E.R., Grey's Anatomy... in Australia my favourite was All Saints which followed the A&E and its doctors and nurses. It's all very interesting how they manage to find out what is ailling someone and gratifying when the problem can be solved... it breaks your heart when it's not something that can be fixed... like Jonah's example of the grandfather with cancer," Zoe said with a ruefall smile as she stood up from her desk and moved over to rest her bottom on the front of the desk.
"Thank you everyone for sharing your stories ... I've attended a hospital a few times. Last year I visited the maternity ward because my bestie had given birth to a healthy, bouncing baby boy called Max," Zoe said with a happy smile, "another time when I was much younger with my little brother because he got very bad chicken pox... which is similar to dragon pox but not as deadly usually. And you don't breathe fire... you just itch to buggery," Zoe said with a laugh.
"So at the front of the class I have a couple of basics for you guys to get an idea of what muggles have to learn when it comes to dealing with major accidents. Can each of you tell me an accident that you think might need attending to quickly? We'll write them up on the board as you call them out and then we'll have a look at these kits to see how a muggle might deal with it. OK?"

Rodrik wasn't acting like... himself, and Grace couldn't help but worry that she'd done something wrong. Had she upset him in some way? Then he was making some comment about Aiden, and her lips pulled into a frown because it sounded vacant, empty, and she didn't want to gush about how oh so perfect their kiss was in case she upset him further. Instead, she just nodded before turning to Professor Savage.
The stories her peers shared were awful, and made her wince. Rodrik's poor pa, and Jonah's neighbour... and then the mention that Kaylie had been to the hospital more than once for injuries that her mother had to explain away had her sending a concerned glance the girl's way. It didn't... that didn't sound right, and Grace made a mental note to say something to Professor Savage on the way out just to make sure the professor had heard what she had.
After listening to the Professor explain about how muggles determined what injuries were treating first, and their passion for medical dramas on the TV... something Grace had only seen once or twice in Muggle Studies class itself, they were being asked what sort of accidents muggles might need attending to. After racking her brain for a long, decent while, Grace raised her hands. "In... I've read in some books that muggles drive... are they cars? And sometimes they hit each other or people crossing the road and... it sounds quite awful, really." She was grateful they didn't have those in the wizarding world, they sounded like 'death traps,' as her dad would say. "Um, which may require people to come and help them, maybe?"
