With the capture of Verandi Farley and several high-ranking Trossach members, the British wizarding world has finally caught a break. The rate of rogue werewolf attacks have started dropping at a steady rate and, hopefully, things will stay that way. The Ministry is starting to loosen some restrictions, like not arresting werewolves standing on the street for loitering, however there’s still an obvious power imbalance between wizardfolk and werewolves.
The Cotswolds pack are continuing to advocate for the rights of werewolves and petitioning to change the legislation that has been set in motion by the current Minister for Magic, whilst the remaining Trossachs members are trying to stay out of the spotlight and keep a low profile… for now.
Whilst the British wizarding world seems to have calmed down, the same cannot be said for over in Northern Europe where a rebellion of magical creatures has risen. The state of things has gotten so bad that the European Ministry has enacted protocols to protect those under eighteen whilst their adult witches and wizards fight to keep control of their countries.
Students from Durmstrang have been sent to Hogwarts to keep them safe and those not old enough to attend school have been sent to live with relatives or designated British Ministry officials outside of Europe for the time being.
Will the low rates of werewolf attacks in Britain continue? How long will Durmstrang students stay at Hogwarts? Will the creatures usurp the wizardfolk in Northern Europe? Only time will tell.
SEPTEMBER 2019 It's been a very long, eventful summer in the wizarding world. A baby was stolen, several high ranking Trossach members were imprisoned, and werewolf attacks have drastically dropped as a result. What will happen now school has returned?
MAY 2019 An attempt to capture the beta of the Trossachs has been launched. Were the Aurors successful in their mission? Go read more here!
Avery had asked for just a couple of things for Christmas - a few yards of different fabrics, a good pair of fabric scissors (someone in her dorm had used her last pair to CUT CARD and blunted them...even with a magic fix they were never quite the same) and a sewing kit she could take to school. By some miracle people had actually paid attention to her list for once and she went back to school a total of approximately 40 meters of fabric (a mix of velvet, silks, cotton, leather, denim), 4 pairs of amazing fabric scissors and the most amazingly stocked sewing kit. She had never been so happy! Best Christmas, in her opinion.
With an armful of denim and her kit in hand, Avery sought out an empty classroom on the third floor to turn into a temporary design studio. She wanted to make herself a new jacket and she needed plenty of space to spread out, it was the only way to work!
She laid the fabric, smoothing out all the creases and set her utensils out - measuring tape, chalk, tape, needles, thread, scissors...and the fashion mannequin she had stashed in the dusty unused storage cupboard. With a sigh Avery smiled and sat down at the desk.

Ever since her Winter Ball dress had been destroyed, Isobel hadn't picked up a needle or thread. She had spent so long on getting every detail of the blue gown just right that she needed to spend a few weeks just sketching designs instead, while she considered if it was even worth it to try to recreate the dress. It wasn't like it was normal to wear the same dress to multiple events.
But she missed it. And so inspiration for other things wasn't coming as it should. Her sketchbook was full of things, but every time she tried to start a fashion sketch, nothing seemed right. Classes were out for the day, so she was about to head back down to her dormitory and give it another shot. It was hard to concentrate on drawing when the professors were lecturing, even if it's what Isobel would rather be doing.
As she reached the third-floor landing, a familiar sight caught her eye from the open door of a classroom that she normally never saw being used. Stopping in her tracks, she took a few steps backward and poked her head into the door. A small girl was there, laying out what looked like a treasure trove of fabric across all the desks. Normally Isobel didn't want much to do with the younger years, but if she could meet one more person with the same love of fashion...
"Excuse me for bothering you, but I got curious when I saw you with all this fabric. I'm a designer myself. What are you making?"
Though she suspected she was due for a growth spurt in the next few months (she had been eating practically none stop lately), Avery hadn’t changed in the past twelve months which meant she could continue to use the same patterns instead of constantly remeasuring more. She would add a couple of extra inches to this one though just in anticipation for growing a little. Maybe she could make a new skirt? Maybe even her own school skirt - she found the fabric of the uniform skirts just a little too itchy for her liking, even with wooly tights on underneath.
She was still pinning her pattern pieces into place when a voice from the doorway interrupted her. The small girl was prepared to snap at whoever it was for disturbing her (she really should make that 'do not disturb' sign) but the words got caught in her throat when she heard that they were a designer too. Another fashion lover at Hogwarts!?
Avery turned on the spot quickly to face the door with a rare look of enthusiasm on her face. The girl was unfamiliar so they didn’t float in the same social circles, probably due to age because she would recognise her if she was a Gryffindor, especially with such striking red hair.
“A jacket, then I’m thinking of making a school skirt that’s less itchy than the uniform ones.” It wasn’t often you would find such a bright, genuine smile on Avery but this was one of those odd occasions. “You make clothes too?”

As she came further into the room, Isobel could tell that the girl was much smaller than her--she had to be in one of the younger years--but the pattern pieces looked carefully cut, like someone who knew what they were doing. Usually she never spoke to any younger students besides her little sister, but she couldn't resist a discussion about fashion when she got the chance. Most people wouldn't understand the technicalities of sewing and designing, which Isobel didn't hold against them, but she wished she had someone whose eyes wouldn't glaze over when she started talking about it. She didn't know this girl well enough to know if they'd ever be friends, but she could at least talk.
"Can't blame you for wanting a new skirt. I think they haven't changed the fabric they use since medieval times," Isobel said, leaning on one of the desks. She touched the edge of the denim that was laid out nearby, pattern pieces pinned on. It felt sturdy, at least at the first touch; it looked like the girl had made a good choice. "I do make clothes, it's been my favorite thing since I was old enough to sew, really." She had been drawing since she could hold a pencil; it had only taken a little more coordination for her to jump to a needle and thread. "It's what I'm hoping to do after school. I really want to have a shop in Diagon Alley someday, but that might take some time." It wasn't like her parents thought it was a valid career, after all.
