With the capture of Verandi Farley and several high-ranking Trossach members, the British wizarding world has finally caught a break. The rate of rogue werewolf attacks have started dropping at a steady rate and, hopefully, things will stay that way. The Ministry is starting to loosen some restrictions, like not arresting werewolves standing on the street for loitering, however there’s still an obvious power imbalance between wizardfolk and werewolves.
The Cotswolds pack are continuing to advocate for the rights of werewolves and petitioning to change the legislation that has been set in motion by the current Minister for Magic, whilst the remaining Trossachs members are trying to stay out of the spotlight and keep a low profile… for now.
Whilst the British wizarding world seems to have calmed down, the same cannot be said for over in Northern Europe where a rebellion of magical creatures has risen. The state of things has gotten so bad that the European Ministry has enacted protocols to protect those under eighteen whilst their adult witches and wizards fight to keep control of their countries.
Students from Durmstrang have been sent to Hogwarts to keep them safe and those not old enough to attend school have been sent to live with relatives or designated British Ministry officials outside of Europe for the time being.
Will the low rates of werewolf attacks in Britain continue? How long will Durmstrang students stay at Hogwarts? Will the creatures usurp the wizardfolk in Northern Europe? Only time will tell.
SEPTEMBER 2019 It's been a very long, eventful summer in the wizarding world. A baby was stolen, several high ranking Trossach members were imprisoned, and werewolf attacks have drastically dropped as a result. What will happen now school has returned?
MAY 2019 An attempt to capture the beta of the Trossachs has been launched. Were the Aurors successful in their mission? Go read more here!
The weather was surprisingly decent for mid-December with freshly fallen snow on the Quidditch pitch from the night before but not cloud in sight. The wind was only mild and the sun shone brightly over the winter wonderland; dare Alicia think that is almost brought a warmth to the morning as the professional Quidditch player, captain, coach waited for the students to file in.
"It's cold out today; it will be even colder when you're in the air," Alicia said as she stood, wrapped in the warmest woolens on the market. Her long hair caught the sunshine as it played with the breeze. "So let's get the blood pumping straight away with ten laps each - those of you on your house Quidditch teams - you need to get 20 done." The woman let gaze roll over her students, "that is in the same time as the rest of the class does their ten. So Jones, Kallenbach, Narro, Stevens, Young, I hope you brought your A game," Alicia turned to the non-Quidditch team member students in the class. "Make them work hard; if I hear chatter amongst you all then I will make you do it again in detention. Any Quidditch team member that gets back to me after the other students will also complete the drill in detention."
Alicia had other things planned for the lesson, of course, as evidenced by some equipment not far from where they all stood. First though, came the warm up.

Advanced Flying was one of the few lessons Wolfgang looked forward to. Transfiguration was his most favorite, but he knew better than to enjoy himself during those -- he had to focus and be precise, hone his craft and not conjure a bull that could impale him on its own horns as a punishment for being careless. But flying? Playing Qudditch? He did that for fun.
Pure, blissful fun, the kind that makes your heart flutter and gives you a second wind. It helped him unwind and leave any stress down on the ground. In the air, he was as free as the northern breeze. In addition to that, it kept him fit! Wolfgang was glad he wasn't afraid of heights, because he doubted that any land-based sports would thrill him this much.
As always, impeccably dressed (as impecabble as a Quidditch form can be), with his black hair pulled back and slicked with just enough hair gel to keep it in place, broom cleaned and polished, Wolfgang arrived to the lesson.
As soon as Coach Spinnet had given the signal, Wolfgang leaped on his broom and shot up and forward, avoiding his classmates. The cold wind cut his ears and his face quickly became red, but he wasn't one to complain. He leaned forward, as close to his broomstick as he could, trying to reduce his own surface area, whizzing past like a bright blue bolt.

Matheus, quite clearly, had a thing for older women. It had started when he was thirteen and he hadn't stopped chasing after them ever since... he couldn't help it. They were more experienced, knew what they were doing. Coach Spinnet, as she stood in front of them, was sex on legs. 'She definitely knows her way around a broomstick,' Matheus thought pleasantly, as his eyes glided over the woman's fit form, before glancing around at the rest of the class.
His eyes lit up when he saw his sexy, smexy, roommate, and immediately, the look in his eyes had Matheus grinning cheekily. "Stop drooling, Jordan," he whispered chirpily, nudging him in the ribs with his elbow. "Maybe if you're a naughty boy, Coach'll give you detention. Bet you'd love to spend more time with her. She probably has a ton of broomsticks you can polish... I'm sure you've gotten the hang of that over the years."
With a face the picture of innocent and a cheerful little hum, Matheus mounted his broomstick. Despite being on the team... and constantly playfully bragging about his own broomstick (the one he didn't ride, although that would be a miraculous feat in itself)... he still used a school broom. He couldn't afford anything else. Perks of being dirt poor, he supposed.
Kicking off from the grown, Matheus zoomed up into the air, gripping his broom and leaning forward, feeling the air whip through his curls as his broom sped forward. He may have had a shitty old broomstick, but he was still as fast as the rest of the students and he ended up flying directly alongside Wolfgang. At the rate and speed he was travelling, he definitely wasn't going to come last in these laps.
Leo both loved and dreaded flying classes. He loved it because it meant that he could hone his flying skills and he loved flying. He dreaded it because ever since 'Professor Spinnet' had started teaching them, he'd had some kind of celebrity crush on her. Which was not all that logical, seeing as his dad knew 'Alicia' and she'd had tea at their house before and treated the family to top spot tickets at professional games. It all didn't make much sense and was rather embarrassing, so Leo dreaded that anyone might find out. But he was also afraid to make a fool of himself. If anything, he hoped to impress their teacher. If possible, not with garbled nonsense.
Therefore Leo flinched, then hushed his dorm mate when he just had to go and comment on the teacher. "Shut it, Mat!" he hissed. "I didn't do nothing! Besides, my dad went to school with her," he added, as if that explained everything.
Hurrying to do what the teacher had told them to, Leo mounted his broom along with the others. But he had barely kicked off when he could already see that both Mat and Wolfgang were drawing ahead of him. He sometimes wondered if he'd been in his right mind when he'd asked his dad for the Starsweeper XX. It was a right pain to feel the broom struggle in the first minutes of flying in cold air. It took him about two laps to get up to speed and then he still had some serious catching up to do. He lay flat on his broom, eyes narrowed to slits as he was reaching max speed, taking the curves as sharply as the protesting broom would allow. He was finally catching up with Wolfgang and Mat, being almost able to reach the tails of their brooms.
Alicia could always pick the athletes from the fun flyers. Even in the professional world of Quidditch, some people had wasted talent for example. Those people were scouted, recruited, maybe lasted a season or two before being put aside for the next, newer talent. Only those that put effort into their talent lasted the distance... became true stars. Not to sound up herself, but that was what Alicia had done - it had taken a substantial amount of effort for Wood, all those many years ago, to accept Alicia onto the team and she'd never taken it for granted.
Decades later, Alicia's critical eye fell on the senior students with her no nonsense gaze and took stock of the three that got straight to business. Kallenbach was off into the sky almost as soon as the words were out of her mouth - this was a good sign; though she noted that the boy put a little too much effort into his look. If he were to join the ranks of professional Quidditch, Alicia could tell he'd become a heart-throb teen star much like Viktor had been back in her time.
Next her eyes fell upon the pair of Gryffindors; a softness crossed the Coach's face as she nodded almost encouragingly towards Leo. She'd known him since he were knee-high to a house-elf - Merlin isn't that a sentence to make a woman feel every single second of her four decades on Earth? She noted the chatter amongst the two students, though lucky for them she hadn't had any audiunt miniscula potion so didn't overhear the particulars. Leo had a broom that was popular with the Americans and the curly haired Delgado had a school broom that had been around since she'd attended. As a member of the Gryffindor team, Alicia tucked that nugget of knowledge away in her mind. Perhaps if her divorce loomed with her lawyer husband out for every penny - or galleon, as their household was a mix of magical and non-magical - she'd make sure there was nothing left for him to take. Starting with a good broom for this kid.
Alicia cast a sonorus charm so that those in the air could hear her and she did not have to unduly yell; her voice was loud and demanding naturally, but she was contending with the speed they were doing their laps and the wind. "KALLENBACH if DELGADO can catch you on THAT broom you're not pushing hard enough!" Alicia watched as Leo lagged horribly behind. "JORDAN, my grandma can ride faster than that!" Alicia shook her head and hoped that spurred the three of them on to greater speed.
As the others took to the skies, Alicia turned to the equipment that she had piled in the middle of the pitch. With her wand much like an orchestra conductor, Alicia began to charm the various pieces into the sky. There were seven wooden rings; 3 were large and would comfortably fit two students on brooms flying through at one time. Two were smaller still, only large enough to fit one student comfortably and then final two would test the student's spatial awareness for sure as they'd only fit through these two rings if they laid tightly down on their broom. These were randomly distributed at different heights and interspersed with several cone markers and three flurescent orange rods.
It was an obstacle course that would test their abilities. She'd explain what the students needed to do when they'd finished their rounds.
For consistency, I've done a mock up of the obstacle. The hoops that are close together mean that one is hanging very close together and below (1). All of the various equipment are mostly at the same height except for the starting hoops.
