With the capture of Verandi Farley and several high-ranking Trossach members, the British wizarding world has finally caught a break. The rate of rogue werewolf attacks have started dropping at a steady rate and, hopefully, things will stay that way. The Ministry is starting to loosen some restrictions, like not arresting werewolves standing on the street for loitering, however there’s still an obvious power imbalance between wizardfolk and werewolves.
The Cotswolds pack are continuing to advocate for the rights of werewolves and petitioning to change the legislation that has been set in motion by the current Minister for Magic, whilst the remaining Trossachs members are trying to stay out of the spotlight and keep a low profile… for now.
Whilst the British wizarding world seems to have calmed down, the same cannot be said for over in Northern Europe where a rebellion of magical creatures has risen. The state of things has gotten so bad that the European Ministry has enacted protocols to protect those under eighteen whilst their adult witches and wizards fight to keep control of their countries.
Students from Durmstrang have been sent to Hogwarts to keep them safe and those not old enough to attend school have been sent to live with relatives or designated British Ministry officials outside of Europe for the time being.
Will the low rates of werewolf attacks in Britain continue? How long will Durmstrang students stay at Hogwarts? Will the creatures usurp the wizardfolk in Northern Europe? Only time will tell.
SEPTEMBER 2019 It's been a very long, eventful summer in the wizarding world. A baby was stolen, several high ranking Trossach members were imprisoned, and werewolf attacks have drastically dropped as a result. What will happen now school has returned?
MAY 2019 An attempt to capture the beta of the Trossachs has been launched. Were the Aurors successful in their mission? Go read more here!
Scorpius was so ready to go home! He had his trunk packed and was supposed to meet his mother so she could take him home. Scorpius didn't have many friends he had to say goodbye to so he just wandered the great hall a little, thinking of how much he will miss the school while he was gone. Honestly the world was quite on edge with the werewolf situation and he supported his family's opinion because if he learned anything over time it was how important family was to him.
Scorpius looked at the giant hourglasses on the wall, his house wasn't doing well with the housepoints at all and it was slight disappointment in his mind. How did they end up with only 2? Slytherin needed to get more points, the pride was really down their socks wasn't it? With a sigh he turned away from the hourglasses only to almost walk into a girl.
"Oh sorry!" he said though he didn't even touch her, he was near her which made him step back instantly, being near girls was scary. Scorpius swallowed a lump a bit and scratched the back of his neck. "I - I didn't see you there.. you're a Ravenclaw right? So far you got a lot of housepoints.. that's pretty cool." Oh shut up Scorpius.
Were boys always that stupid? Sometimes Mia wondered how she can crush on one boy in a different house, and it had bothered her, but she hid it. No one needed to know that eleven year old Mia Jones was crushing on a Tyrell. She had heard that family was bad news, and she wanted to stay clear of the lot of them. And it didn’t help that there was a Professor with the last name Tyrell, and by the looks of it, she didn’t want to be there. If the Potions Professor’s looks could kill, half the school would be dead. Why did she want this job if she hated it so much?
The young Ravenclaw girl let out a frustrated sigh as she looked for her older brother, but he was nowhere to be found. She was carrying the muggle candy, Skittles in her hand, taking one and popping it into her mouth while she walked into the entrance hall, frowning a bit. Where did David disappear too?
Of course she wasn’t paying much attention to where she was going, and had jumped back when the sudden voice yelled sorry!. A few skittles had escaped her bag, falling to the floor and her eyes had gone wide before she looked down at the fallen candy.
Boys. Are. Stupid.
”That’s because Ravenclaw is better than all the other houses.”
Scorpius didn't mean to run into this girl and let her drop her candy. The blonde boy looked at the dropped candy and frowned. It looked strange, like rainbows in little sweet things. He never heard of them before but he didn't feel like this was the appropriate time to ask. Scorpius turned to look at the hourglasses again and shook his head. That was not the point and wrong in many ways as Ravenclaw hasn't won a house cup in over a decade.
"Is there really a big difference between houses?" he asked and got down on his knees to pick up the candy's. Maybe he could dust them off and she could still eat them anyway. "What are these? They don't look familiar but then again my parents don't let me eat much candy." he said and held the dropped skittles out to Mia, still on his knees.
"I-I'm Scorpius." he said with a slight blush on his cheeks.
Okay, maybe it was rather rude of Mia to say what she said about the houses, having read the history about Hogwarts in one of the books she had in the summer. The girl liked to know things about certain places, and when she had gotten her letter, she asked for all the books they had on Hogwarts. The even had brought them with her when she arrived at the school. The girl knew of Ravenclaw’s struggles, and knew all about the ghosts that roam the corridors of the castle. ”Sorry. That was rude.” she apologized.
But he had gotten down onto his knees to grab the fallen candy, and she watched him with a frown. Okay, this boy was one of the one’s she should respect. He had manners it seemed, and she wasn’t going to keep being rude to him. ”They’re Skittles. Muggle candy. They’re different flavors. The purple ones are blackcurrant, or grape, depending where you get it. This one is grape. The yellow is lemon. Green is green apple. Orange is orange. And the red is strawberry.” she shared as she held her hand out for the skittles.
Her eyes went wide as he introduced himself and she smiled. ”Like the constellation. It’s shaped like a scorpion if you study the charts!”
The one thing he needed to get over was himself around girls. Not all of them were bad though this one seemed quite upset that she bumped into him, or that he bumped into her. He handed the girl the candy he picked up and ran a hand through his white locks out of nerves and uncertainty. He hoped to make friends, he needed to get more friends that didn't like him for his family name. "It's alright, I am not upset." he lied as he hated people being mad at him. If anything he was quite sensitive, the opposite of what was expected of him.
"Skittles.." he repeated slowly. "That sounds nice." he said before she explained the flavors. "I don't eat candy much, my father doesn't think it's good for me. Neither does my mother really." he told her and smiled a bit as he did so. "Do you eat a lot of candy?" he asked her as he slipped his hands into the pockets of his pants. She then spoke of his name and the constellation he was named after. Truth be told he wasn't even sure if he was named after it but it would make sense in a way.
"Don't be sorry! It's true really." he said and nodded a bit. "I am not good with astronomy but yes the constellation." Scorpius didn't want her to apologize for knowing cool stuff. Honestly he didn't talk much to girls and often when they speak it's not even about things like candy or stars. "Do you know a lot about stars? or space?"
Did Mia know about stars and space? Truth be told, Mia was prepared for some of her classes at Hogwarts, and Astronomy was one of them. It was her favorite class, and she respected the professor teaching it. Then again, she respected all the professors at Hogwarts, knowing that they worked hard to protect its students from the dangers inside and outside the castle. If she wasn’t in good hands, she knew the Jones family probably wouldn’t allow their children to attend this school. It’s been said that this was one of the safest places in the wizarding world, or so she heard.
Mia nodded a bit and smiled deeply when he questioned her about the subject. ”Oh yes! It’s a fantastic subject. I sometimes go up to the Astronomy Tower to think or to find peace. People around here can be quite rude sometimes, and I needed a break from them.” she admitted, looking around to make sure a certain Tyrell wasn’t around to drive her nuts. Sometimes she wanted to slap that smug look off his face.
Scorpius liked astronomy but he wasn't good at it. Sure he tried his best but his best wasn't often the best thing for the class. Maybe one day he would get better, he was only in his second year and he would try to get the hang of not falling asleep during Astronomy class. Scorpius was glad this girl actually enjoyed it though and just nodded with a smile of his own.
"I am not really good at it. I try but I often fall asleep because it's so late at night." the boy said with slightly flushed cheeks and bit his lip for a moment. He must sound like another weird boy to this girl but truth be told he just didn't sleep much in the dungeons, it was cold and not very much like his home.
"Are you going to pursue astronomy when you're older?" he asked her with a smile. "I don't know what I will do, my name gives quite the expectations and I don't know if I can meet those." he said and slipped his hands into his pockets.
