With the capture of Verandi Farley and several high-ranking Trossach members, the British wizarding world has finally caught a break. The rate of rogue werewolf attacks have started dropping at a steady rate and, hopefully, things will stay that way. The Ministry is starting to loosen some restrictions, like not arresting werewolves standing on the street for loitering, however there’s still an obvious power imbalance between wizardfolk and werewolves.
The Cotswolds pack are continuing to advocate for the rights of werewolves and petitioning to change the legislation that has been set in motion by the current Minister for Magic, whilst the remaining Trossachs members are trying to stay out of the spotlight and keep a low profile… for now.
Whilst the British wizarding world seems to have calmed down, the same cannot be said for over in Northern Europe where a rebellion of magical creatures has risen. The state of things has gotten so bad that the European Ministry has enacted protocols to protect those under eighteen whilst their adult witches and wizards fight to keep control of their countries.
Students from Durmstrang have been sent to Hogwarts to keep them safe and those not old enough to attend school have been sent to live with relatives or designated British Ministry officials outside of Europe for the time being.
Will the low rates of werewolf attacks in Britain continue? How long will Durmstrang students stay at Hogwarts? Will the creatures usurp the wizardfolk in Northern Europe? Only time will tell.
SEPTEMBER 2019 It's been a very long, eventful summer in the wizarding world. A baby was stolen, several high ranking Trossach members were imprisoned, and werewolf attacks have drastically dropped as a result. What will happen now school has returned?
MAY 2019 An attempt to capture the beta of the Trossachs has been launched. Were the Aurors successful in their mission? Go read more here!

Skylar did not really want to be alone. Alone meant overthinking things, meant reliving that summer night once more, wondering if there was anything he could have done. It was better when he could distract himself in the busy school, talking so much he could almost stop hearing that voice in his head that said everything in his life was falling apart. But right then there was nothing keeping him away from the thoughts. Apparently everyone else he wanted to hang out with had things going on, homework to do instead of chatting with him in the common room, and after sitting alone by the fire for long enough to start wanting to cry again, he had to flee somewhere. Somewhere abandoned, where nobody could notice just how dark of a mood he was in. Where if he did break down enough to cry--something he never wanted--at least nobody would know.
"Happy Skylar." Yeah. As if.
The redhead sat on a desk with his legs swinging underneath him, elbow on his leg and chin in his hand, staring out the fourth-floor window at the grounds below, at the sunset that was breaking over the forest in shades of pink and purple, casting shadows on everything. He did not want it to be nighttime. Nights reminded him of everything he did not want to think about, and he hoped the moon now was on the other side of the castle from where he was looking out. That ominous circle in the sky was something he did not need right now.
Before curfew, Morgan would find herself wandering around the castle after she'd kiss her girlfriend goodnight and she'd have moments alone before she would head back to the common room. For the past couple of nights, Morgan had managed to sleep without a single nightmare for the first time in months and without the aide of a sleep draught. She wasn't one to abuse such a potion, and she was thankful for her girlfriend to give her it when she needed it. The lack of sleep almost killed her, caused her to snap at her girlfriend because she thought Ry's best friend was trying to steal her from Morgan. Now she knew she was in the wrong.
Morgan had found herself at the door of the unused classroom, pausing for a moment. She would sometime find herself napping there in the past but now she'd just go there for some peace and quiet. But she wasn't expecting the classroom to be in use by somebody, and once she had opened the door, seeing the figure near the window, she wanted to back out before she noticed it was her little brother. It was then she slowly entered the classroom, closing the door behind her.
There was concern covering her features as she eyed him and moved toward him slowly. "Hey you." she said softly.

The door creaked open, and Skylar jumped in surprise, nearly falling off the desk, but catching himself before he could actually slip to the ground. He looked around slowly, afraid somehow that he would find someone he really didn't want to talk to, and breathing a sigh of relief at seeing it was just his sister, a worried look on her face. The worried look wasn't what he wanted to see, but it was one he had seen far too often recently, not that he could blame her. But the girl herself was a comforting sight, and he even managed a small smile for her.
He knew he shouldn't lean on her so much, with everything she had to deal with, but it felt like she was the only person in the world who could understand. Only she had lived through it with him. With everyone else, he had to pretend he was still the bright and sweet boy who had come to Hogwarts what seemed like ages ago, but had really been only a few years. With her, he could let down his guard.
What would he ever do without her?
That was a thought he didn't want to have. There was still the rest of her sixth year and all of her seventh before she would leave Hogwarts, and even then she would just be further away, not gone. Please, never let her be truly gone.
"I'm sorry to worry you," he murmured as Morgan came closer. "I've just been having a bad night. Can't get distracted by anything."
Besides her girlfriend, and even her best friend - Dallas and Skylar were all she had left in this world and she'd die to protect them any day or night. Back when their parents were murdered, Morgan made sure her little brother was safely hidden before she went to investigate the noises downstairs of their home. The home that they had left behind even though it was left to the Reid children. But what were they going to do with the house their parents were killed in? The very house they grew up in, laughter and the good times. Sure, they weren't always perfect but they were well off. Ever since the attack on Dallas, Morgan had promised him and their parents that she would look out for Skylar. That he would be her top priority at school, that she would bail him out of trouble if was ever needed.
She was going to keep that promise until the day she dies, and she had no plans on dying anytime soon. Sure, she had wished she had died that night of the murders and almost had. The question as to why she was just knocked out had yet been answered. The murderers were still out there, getting away with their crime. She wanted to look, she wanted to hunt them down and give her parents the justice they deserve. Last thing she wanted was for her own twin brother finding them cause she knew with his temper, he'd be locked away for life.
The female had stopped next to the table he was seated on, giving him a small smile in return as she studied him closely. He scared her sometimes, made her worry about his head space.
"No need to apologize for worrying me, Sky." she said, hopping up onto the table next to him. "Want to talk about it?"

Did he want to talk about it? Skylar considered. It wasn't like anything had changed about his feelings since the last time he'd been like this: he still felt awful. Would Morgan be able to do anything about it? She couldn't bring their parents back, no matter how much they both wished she could. Skylar often found himself regretting every time he'd upset them, hoping they hadn't died thinking of him as a bad son. Hoping they had known how much he cared, even if being a teenager meant he didn't always show it. If he'd only known what was going to happen, maybe he could have changed something...
Even just thinking about what to say to Morgan was taking him down that dark road again. His classmates didn't seem to have such worries, and he knew it wasn't normal to feel so hopeless. But what could he do?
Talk to his sister. It's what he knew he was supposed to do, even if it felt awkward and terrible to admit what was going on in his head.
"I suppose I could talk," he said hesitantly, but his tongue seemed to get stuck on what to say next. Where did he even start? "I'm constantly afraid of losing you?" No, he didn't want to put that on her shoulders. "I blame myself for everything?" Couldn't say that, either. He stared at his hands, twisting them together on his legs, afraid that if he looked at Morgan, he really would start crying.
Everyday Morgan lived in fear. Everyday she would often feel like someone is watching her every move. Everyday she was scared that she might lose both her brothers in a matter of time. Even though Morgan wasn’t one to mention her fears out loud, most people who knew her knew what she was afraid of the most. From Dallas never coming back to them, to losing Skylar to something so terrible. Fear had driven her to the alcohol she had craved almost every day since they returned to Hogwarts. Perhaps it was also grief that drew her to the poison. Everyday she lived with worry, and she hated that feeling.
If she could bring their parents back from the dead, she would. If she could trade her life for them, she would do it because a child needed their parents. Even if they don’t deserve to bury their own baby. All Morgan wanted was everything to be normal again. For Dallas to not have gone camping, and he’d be there with them. The three Reid’s causing hell around Hogwarts. Morgan can’t remember when the last time they were all truly happy.
Morgan had sat there in silence as she waited for her brother, looking at the young male with concern when he didn’t even look at her. She knew he was still grieving, and she was also in the process of grieving too. They all were but their deaths must have hit the youngest the hardest.
Morgan watched his hands for a moment before she reached to put hers on top of his, and looked at him, trying to catch his eye. ”Sky...talk to me. What’s wrong?”

Everything is wrong. Absolutely everything.
He was going to break down in front of Morgan and then she would have even more to worry about and then she'd look even more tired every time he saw her and he knew it. How could he do that to her? It was bad enough that he was like this. But then she reached over, putting her hand on his fidgeting ones, and he was forced to look up into the eyes that were so similar to his own. With that glance, he knew Morgan was already worried.
"I... I just can't stop thinking that I should have done something," and with that, Skylar's eyes started to fill with tears. He brought one hand up quickly to pinch at his nose, trying to stop it from happening, trying to be stronger. "I know that we can't use magic at home, and I know you told me to hide, but I keep thinking that it would have been better if I'd taken my wand and done something, and maybe they wouldn't have hurt you, and you know..." Everything came out in one burst until he had to trail off, not even wanting to say out loud that they were dead, even though it was so much of what he seemed to think about every day.
Morgan had been worried since the day Dallas was attacked, worried that she might lose a brother one day and never thought she'd lose her parents. But then they all had lost them, and Morgan was so worried about her baby brother that she forgot to take care of herself half the time. The lack of sleep was getting to her, and she had gotten her girlfriend to help her through them despite them being in different houses. She just wish she was in her brother's house, offering a brother/sister cuddle fest like they used to at home during winter holidays.
At the mention of that terrible night their parents were killed, Morgan teared up because it was a sore subject and seeing her brother's tears just knocked down the wall she built up. She didn't want people to worry about her, and now they were both in the deep end of grief. "Hey, you did what I told you to do. I didn't want to risk losing you. I promised mom and dad that I'd protect you until my dying breath, and I intend to keep that promise. Don't blame yourself, little brother. Trust me, don't go there."

Skylar wanted to believe it. He wanted to believe that he'd done the right thing. Morgan seemed to think so, but couldn't they have stood a better chance with one more person against the attackers? Thoughts of what could have happened if he'd been stronger, if he'd known what to do, played through his head on what seemed like a nightly basis. In his heart, he knew his sister was right. She was older, she had a better chance of protecting him--protecting all of them--but even she hadn't been able to stop them.
Maybe it was that which shook his world most of all. He had spent all of his childhood following the twins around like a little shadow, admiring them above all. Even though he was a third wheel of sorts, as the only non-twin, as the only one in a different House, it didn't change the admiration he had always felt for his older siblings. They had seemed the epitome of cool, perfect role models, practically invincible.
And then he'd learned all too hard that they weren't.
It wasn't like it made him upset with Morgan. She did her best, she only wanted to protect him. In fact, her words were only making him choke up even more.
There was hidden anger in Morgan, and it rarely ever showed unless someone was putting her family in harm's way. Back at the night of the murder, the moment she had closed her brother’s door before investigating what was going on downstairs, she had a doubt. A moment of thinking that she might meet her fate as soon as her legs went to the stairs. And she was right, in a way. A part of her had died the night their parents were killed, and she had wished she did things differently. Made a loud noise, or something that will distract the intruders from harming her parents. After Morgan had woken up in a puddle of blood, she had wondered why the intruders didn’t kill her. Why her parents? Why did they just go after them? It was questions she asked herself every day since that night. Why did she survive?
Speaking of that night was something Morgan didn’t want to talk about, and none of the siblings had even sat down to talk about it together. They all grieved in their own way, and sometimes she wondered if they should all have a sit down some time. Perhaps during their Christmas holiday, if Skylar agreed in going to the cabin to celebrate with the twins and Artemis.
She wasn’t going to force that on him. In fact, she was going to leave it up to him.
When Skylar broke the silence, asking for a hug, Morgan couldn’t help but give her brother a smile and nodded. ”You never have to ask for a hug. Get in here…” she said, opening her arms for one. Maybe they both could use a hug.

Skylar seemed to have forgotten just how good it felt to have a hug from his sister. It was so easy for them to live separate lives when they were at school, being in all different classes, with different friends and different hobbies. Especially now that Morgan was in sixth year, with all the work that came with N.E.W.T.s. But of course, they had to go off to school right when they needed each other most. Often, Skylar wished he could have just given up on school for the year, but he knew his siblings would never let him, and he had to admit that it would be humiliating to fall behind all his classmates.
Maybe he just needed more hugs to get through the year.
He leaned his head against Morgan's shoulder, putting his arms around her just as she did for him. They were nearly the same size now, Skylar realized, thinking that maybe he had even gotten taller than her by now--they really didn't talk as often as they needed to, or else he would know for sure.
"Thanks for--for being here," he mumbled, still not liking to admit just how shaken up he was, but knowing that Morgan needed to know that she really had brought him comfort. "Think we could find some time to hang out more? I'd like that."
It had been a rough year, and even though Morgan had said things will be okay, she had her doubts. When they arrived at Hogwarts again after settling in at the Jones’ house, Morgan had wanted to bury herself in her studies and focus on her future instead of worrying about what had happened during the summer. It had only been a month when they both went back to Hogwarts, and Morgan had tried her best to not show weakness whenever she was around her baby brother. The girl wanted to be strong for him, for both her brothers but it was catching up to her.
As soon as her brother had hugged her, her arms went around him too and her eyes remained focused ahead. It had been rough, and she felt awful for not being there for her brother when he needed her. Truth be told, she had been pushing people away; her own girlfriend included because she had no idea how to handle her own grief.
”And I’m not going anywhere.” she said softly, kissing the side of his head with a tiny smile. The thought of hanging out with her brother, made her smile even more. Maybe she should make it a thing that they’d hang out again. ”Yeah, I think we can do that.”

At Morgan's words, Skylar thought he could manage a smile. She was here, for him. She would be here at school for the next couple years, and she would always be his sister. The events of the summer had been hard on both of them, but it would be easier together. If only it hadn't taken Skylar breaking down in an abandoned classroom to make that happen--but they were both trying to be strong, to make it less obvious how much they were hurting. He knew that. And in front of everyone else, that was the image he wanted to have. Changing his mind on that would be difficult. He didn't want pity--he wanted his parents back, no matter how impossible that wish was.
But, with one hug from his sister, he knew that he also needed her. He didn't have to cry alone if he had her. And though this time it had been her comforting him, in that moment, he resolved to do the same if she ever needed it. Just because he was the little brother didn't mean he couldn't do that, right?
"You're leaving for the break, right?" Skylar stepped carefully around using the word "home," not wanting to speak about that. "We can hang out then. And when we get back, too." He gave Morgan one last squeeze. "I think I can go back to the common room now. I'm really glad it was you who ran into me here."
The Reid’s had suffered a major loss, but they were going to get through it eventually. If she could travel back in time, she would change how things went down and used her wand if it meant for her parents to be alive. Morgan didn’t care if she went to prison for using magic outside school; at least they’d have their parents alive but no, they were gone and they were going to deal with it together. Mama and Papa Reid were a strong couple, and had raised strong children. They had this, and she wasn’t going to disappoint them. She wasn’t going to let Skylar down. The redhead made a promise, and she intended to keep it.
There was a tiny smile on Morgan’s face when he brought up leaving for break, and she nodded. ”Yeah. Going to the cabin. Dallas is looking forward to spending some quality time with us. Maybe we can pull out some old board games and teach the others not to mess with the Reid’s.” she suggested, and then she slid off the table when he mentioned heading back to the common room. ”Me too. Other people are overrated, little brother.” she patted his shoulder. ”Stay safe. Sleep. And if you need me, just seek me out tomorrow. I plan on drawing outside anyway.” she said as she looked at her brother.
The girl kissed her brother’s cheek before she had headed out of the empty classroom. ”Goodnight, little bro.”
