With the capture of Verandi Farley and several high-ranking Trossach members, the British wizarding world has finally caught a break. The rate of rogue werewolf attacks have started dropping at a steady rate and, hopefully, things will stay that way. The Ministry is starting to loosen some restrictions, like not arresting werewolves standing on the street for loitering, however there’s still an obvious power imbalance between wizardfolk and werewolves.
The Cotswolds pack are continuing to advocate for the rights of werewolves and petitioning to change the legislation that has been set in motion by the current Minister for Magic, whilst the remaining Trossachs members are trying to stay out of the spotlight and keep a low profile… for now.
Whilst the British wizarding world seems to have calmed down, the same cannot be said for over in Northern Europe where a rebellion of magical creatures has risen. The state of things has gotten so bad that the European Ministry has enacted protocols to protect those under eighteen whilst their adult witches and wizards fight to keep control of their countries.
Students from Durmstrang have been sent to Hogwarts to keep them safe and those not old enough to attend school have been sent to live with relatives or designated British Ministry officials outside of Europe for the time being.
Will the low rates of werewolf attacks in Britain continue? How long will Durmstrang students stay at Hogwarts? Will the creatures usurp the wizardfolk in Northern Europe? Only time will tell.
SEPTEMBER 2019 It's been a very long, eventful summer in the wizarding world. A baby was stolen, several high ranking Trossach members were imprisoned, and werewolf attacks have drastically dropped as a result. What will happen now school has returned?
MAY 2019 An attempt to capture the beta of the Trossachs has been launched. Were the Aurors successful in their mission? Go read more here!
Entering The Three Broomsticks, Jack had an easy, relaxed smile on his face because it was the weekend and time to wind down finally. He'd owled his sister, Maggie, and was hoping that at some point she'd be able to join him for a drink or two though Jack knew the chances were slim.
She wasn't coping very well, not at the moment, with the way the wizarding world was going. It felt like new anti-werewolf legislation was passed every week and as the legislation grew, so did his sister's sadness. Perhaps if she showed up today, he could try and bring her spirits up.
Shrugging off the thoughts - there was no point in worrying about it, he couldn't fix anything he'd unfortunately realised - Jack took a table and flagged down one of the waitstaff. "Just a coffee for now, thanks," he said with a friendly smile and a nod.

It seemed like there's always something to do every time Donovan were to walk into the Auror office, but this day was finally a day for him to relax a tiny bit. Sure, his job was demanding and he'd be summoned at any given moment but he was taking advantage of the free time to head to The Three Broomsticks to check in with his brother only to find out that he had the day off. Okay, so this might have been a waste of a trip but he was going to stick around, make sure things were running well in the little village just little ways from the castle where his little sister resided. Perhaps he should head up there to check in but he knew his sister would hate that her big brother checking in on her.
So he decided against it, and had watched as people walked into the pub, noticing a professor enter the place moments before. It took him a few moments before he stood up, heading straight for Professor O'Connor's table. There was a smile, and it's been a long time since he had last seen or spoken to Jack. He couldn't really remember their last meeting, maybe it was during a dark time.
After receiving his coffee, Jack had only been two sips in when suddenly he heard a voice saying 'Professor...' Glancing up curiously, Jack was surprised to see just who it was, placing the face almost immediately. It was an old student of his, one he hadn't seen in a while, although he did teach Donovan's younger siblings. "Mr. Stevens, how are you?" he asked the man politely.
If Jack recalled correctly, the man had entered the Ministry of Magic workforce after having graduated Hogwarts. Whilst Jack had the utmost respect for the hard work that such workers put into upholding the laws of the wizarding world, currently he was at a disagreement with them. They had received several letters from him over the past year, trying to come to some resolution for the old werewolf students of Hogwarts. Jack's belief was that they were all entitled to an education and Teddy had brought up an excellent point in their last conversation about students needing to learn how to control their gift. If they didn't learn, they would end up harming themselves or others. It wasn't safe for anybody.

Honestly? Donovan was getting a bit sick of the new laws, but he knew damn well if he started to question them to his bosses, he could be out of a job. And he didn't make it to the Auror office just to lose his job because his opinion's were different than their's. Some people hated him for his job, but at least his family was sticking by his side for now. His father had his own opinion, and had said that the werewolves had deserved what they had coming. It disgusted the male to a point where he wanted to punch the shit out of his old man, but he kept himself calm and chose to talk about something else. His work wasn't the best dinner talk. Whenever they were together, he'd try to get his brothers to talk about their career of being professional Quidditch players.
It had been awhile since he had seen his professor, and sure, he had heard about the letters the older male had sent but he never read them. At least the old man respected his job, right? He didn't shoo him away in that very moment, and when he was greeted, the male smiled a bit more. "I'm doing alright. Just enjoying my first day off in a long time. How have you been? Hope the students aren't giving you too much trouble this year."
Truth be told, he was a little sick and tired that his sister was a target of bullying.
As Donovan answered Jack's question on how he was, Jack nodded politely. "I'm glad you've got a day off... from what I've heard, the ministry has a tendency to overwork people," Jack commented. To be honest, Hogwarts tended to work their professors overtime but that was like all teaching jobs, wasn't it? He imagined if he was a teacher in the muggle world, he'd be just has overworked, if not more. "I'm well... it's been a busy couple of weeks, and there's certainly been a few detentions so far, but that's to be expected. I suppose you just have to come back after the holidays with a realistic mindset. One I've most definitely gained after fifteen years on the job."
Taking another sip of his coffee, Jack was quiet for a moment, taking in the room carefully. It wasn't too crowded on a Sunday morning, and he was glad none of his students had decided to sneak into Hogsmeade. Running into them on a morning off wasn't his ideal situation. "Any plans for your day off?"

Donovan wasn't one to complain about his job out loud, or rather, in a public place. Last he needed was to lose his job for trash talking it, and having no income even if he had his parents to fall back on. But no, he needed to keep his mouth shut about the job because it was pissing him off to the point of him snapping, and when a Stevens' snap, there will be Hell. "Oh, they do." was all he was going to say about the job overworking their workers. "I hope my brother and sister aren't too much trouble for you though. I highly doubt Casey gets into trouble much at all." he said as he can remember there were times he had gotten himself in trouble back in the day.
Man, he felt old. No offense, Jack.
What did Donovan have planned for his day off? He had no idea. "I was here to check on Finn but found he's not working. Debating on going up at the castle to check in with my kid siblings there but know damn well they don't want an Auror on the grounds unless it's business."
"Your siblings are very well-behaved," Jack replied curtly because talking about students in depth in a public setting was asking for trouble when it came to confidentiality. It was easy for another to overhear unless muffliato was used. A smile tweaked Jack's lips as he recalled, "Better than you were, at least from what I remember."
Donovan brought up wanting to go to the castle and immediately, Jack's brows raised because that was certainly a very big plan, especially given that unless given approval to enter the grounds by the Headmistress or himself, most could not just waltz in without a very good reason. Official ministry visits were, of course, a good reason but a visit for siblings? No. Safety precautions, after all. "Perhaps you could do a head-only floo and check in that way, or meet up with them during their next visit to Hogsmeade."

Donovan had let out a chuckle at the mention of his siblings being well-behaved. He would believe that in Casey’s case, but in Jonah’s case? Not so much. He knew his brother had problems with professors and prefects alike. Sometimes Donovan just wanted to bap his brother upside the head, tell him to focus on his studies and watch out for their sister because of depression could be taking a toll on her mental health. He worried about her most of all, and knew his girlfriend (Ariella) was looking out for her too. It was a silent agreement between the couple. ”You got me there, Professor.” he commented.
The head-only floo was something he didn’t think of, and the idea of it, made him snap his fingers with a tiny smile. ”Good idea. Hopefully they’re around and agree to it. I think they’re both avoiding me for some reason.”
"You've been graduated for a long time now, Donovan. No need for the formalities. You can call me Jack," Jack replied with a small smile. He was used to people addressing him as Professor, but given that Donovan graduated... maybe a decade ago (Merlin, had it really been that long?) he felt it was fine to drop the whole thing.
"Ah, I wish I could provide you with some insight why. Unless I'm approached about something or see something specific and ask, I don't get told much about my students lives," Jack said with a shrug. It was a shame. If he was made aware of troubling things, he did his best to try and sort them. It was his duty as a teacher and honestly, helping was something he'd always felt obligated to do. The scars on his back were living proof of that.
