With the capture of Verandi Farley and several high-ranking Trossach members, the British wizarding world has finally caught a break. The rate of rogue werewolf attacks have started dropping at a steady rate and, hopefully, things will stay that way. The Ministry is starting to loosen some restrictions, like not arresting werewolves standing on the street for loitering, however there’s still an obvious power imbalance between wizardfolk and werewolves.
The Cotswolds pack are continuing to advocate for the rights of werewolves and petitioning to change the legislation that has been set in motion by the current Minister for Magic, whilst the remaining Trossachs members are trying to stay out of the spotlight and keep a low profile… for now.
Whilst the British wizarding world seems to have calmed down, the same cannot be said for over in Northern Europe where a rebellion of magical creatures has risen. The state of things has gotten so bad that the European Ministry has enacted protocols to protect those under eighteen whilst their adult witches and wizards fight to keep control of their countries.
Students from Durmstrang have been sent to Hogwarts to keep them safe and those not old enough to attend school have been sent to live with relatives or designated British Ministry officials outside of Europe for the time being.
Will the low rates of werewolf attacks in Britain continue? How long will Durmstrang students stay at Hogwarts? Will the creatures usurp the wizardfolk in Northern Europe? Only time will tell.
SEPTEMBER 2019 It's been a very long, eventful summer in the wizarding world. A baby was stolen, several high ranking Trossach members were imprisoned, and werewolf attacks have drastically dropped as a result. What will happen now school has returned?
MAY 2019 An attempt to capture the beta of the Trossachs has been launched. Were the Aurors successful in their mission? Go read more here!
One of Graham’s preparations for the first class of the year was to get through the list of student names with their pictures and memorize them. He didn’t want to waste lecture time messing up names. They needed all the time they could get. If he were honest, Graham would admit he was slightly nervous and did it to be prepared. Mr. Perfectionist still carried on away from the auror office. Before starting, he'd instructed the current generation of Averys to call him Professor Avery like all other students.
History of Magic was never a popular class among students back when he studied. The new teacher doubted times had changed. Fate often proved that history repeated itself.
The new Professor opened the doors for the students to enter the classroom. “Welcome all, please have a seat,” he said as the first students rolled in. “I am Professor Avery, I will be your History teacher starting this term.” The poor ghost had been in need of replacement because he kept falling asleep more every year. However Graham would never be disrespectful to his old teacher.
“For this year we’ll go through the curriculum as you’ve been doing with Professor Binns. Adding to that I want to take you on short field trips, showing the locations where important historical
events happened,” he shared his plans for the coming term. This way he hoped not all their days were spent behind books. While he had no problem studying for hours, Graham knew from experience as a father that every student had different methods. And seeing this was a purely theoretical class, he had to be creative.
“When I say Goblins, what do you first think of? And when I say Elves what do you think of then?”
istory of Magic was the most boring arse subject in the whole of Hogwarts, including Transfiguration with that dorky little Samuels and DADA with that pompous wanker O'Connor. But what made it even worse was that his uncle was teaching it - another way to try and gain control of him, no doubt. Greyson's face made his feelings all too clear as he pushed into the classroom, a twisted scowl on his face.
"Can't wait to learn from you, Graham. How exciting this'll be," he spat towards uncle, kicking out a chair before sitting on it, his limbs sprawled all over the place. He didn't listen to his uncle as it was and he didn't listen to Professors either. If Graham thought Greyson would make his new teaching career easy, he had another thing coming.

History of Magic was actually one of Aggy's favourite classes, right below Ancient History and Arithmancy. She found learning about the history of the world she lived in absolutely fascinating and she didn't give a shit if it was 'uncool.' Being informed of their past in the wizarding world was just as important to her as being informed of the past in the muggle world.
She was surprised when she entered the class to see Professor Avery... Greyson's... relative? She didn't really give a crap about that kid, but the similarities with the name and the way Greyson greeted him so kindly led her to make the assumption. At the Professors question, Aggy raised her hand. "Goblins are incredibly smart, and coexist in our world. They run Gringotts and successfully at that... whilst goblins are seen as lesser than wizards, they're more respected than elves. Elves are devoted to serving lazy wizarding families, doing anything the family wants them to because they're too busy washing their hair or some other mundane excuse to use magic to clean and cook themselves."
The Ravenclaw strode quickly down the stairs to the first floor. The stairs move him from the ground floor all the way up to the fourth floor, and he was fighting with them to let him get to his next class. It was always a hassle trying to figure out the stairs at the start of the year, although they were still a common factor in his late arrivals. He was surprisingly still on time, for the most part, so he was pretty proud of himself. Alexander wasn't a huge fan of Professor Binns, often having to do his own study while listening to the old ghost drone on, so the knowledge that there was a new teacher was thrilling. There wasn't a lot that he knew about the professor- that he was related to the Avery twins. It wasn't much to go off, and he was immensely curious about the lessons ahead of him. He swung into the classroom, giving everyone a beaming smile and then pulling out the chair next to Aggy. "Hey," he greeted her, his voice quiet and eyes attentive on the teacher. He pulled his satchel onto his lap, and he pulled out his bag.
He sat a little straighter as the class started, his eyes darting over to Aggy as she answered the teacher's answer. He tilted his head as he listened to her words, deciding that he wanted to add some more on. He always liked to show teacher's what he was capable of and what he knew, it made the learning process a lot easier. His hand raised up after Aggy's as he gave her an encouraging smile. It was said with a lot less tact then he would have approached it, but the content was all the same. "Yes, uh just to add onto Aggy. Goblins are actually really cool, and they do not deserve to be lesser than us. They make our currencies and practically run our economy. I would not want to mess in their business. Plus, they have their own language! I think it would be a really cool elective to take, but since there aren't a lot of wizards that know the language, to begin with, we have no chance of it. And Elves, yeah, there is a lot of legislation in place to avoid them being abused, but of course, we still have a lot to go in the treatment of them." He took a big breath, then practically beamed at the teacher.

Gem was excited because her dad was teaching here now! She could cuddle him whenever she wanted and now she was going to be a good girl and learn all about... goblins? Weren't they the scary people with the long pointy nails that should not come near a chalkboard?
Gemini was getting uncomfortable with some of the students around her, her dad tried really hard here after all.
"Why don't goblins or elves go to school?" She asked with her hand raised.

Another new year, another Professor and this one at the very least seemed a tad bit more lively than Professor Binns. Thank goodness! Plus, he wanted to have a discussion with them all. Vi loved to talk, it was her forte, and so naturally she didn't hesitate to speak after raising her hand. Then there was no stopping her!
"Goblins have the super duper long nails and they speak in that language with the funny name... um... oh! Gobbledegook?" Vi said brightly, grinning. "House elves have really cutie patootie ears, kind of all pointy like Cornish Pixies except a bit more flopsy wopsy... like... um... droopy woopy? Plus really adorable bug-eyes! "

History was always something that Ollie thought was a big deal but she never truly said that out loud without getting made fun off. The blonde was just seated in her usual seat, her eyes on Gabriel for a moment, giving him a smile before turning her attention back to the professor.
As the class was going on the professor spoke off the goblins and elves. Truth be told the goblins kind of terrified her, she honestly thought they were scary. Ollie just started making notes and doodled some little cartoon bears around the edges.
Suzie didn't have anything against History per say she just wasn't that enthused about it other than maybe the odd subject that was brought up. She'd rather be practicing her ballet dancing. But here she was..getting an education like her family wanted her to have. She listened to the professor as she sat towards the back of the class. With a small sigh escaping her lips she quickly pulled her hair back into a ponytail to keep out of her face and..the cabbage before she looked to the professor and the rest of the class waiting. They were discussing goblins and elves, two creatures she found slightly more interesting but not terribly enthusiastic about.
Graham gave his nephew an unimpressed look. Really now? He loved the kid despite Greyson being a difficult person. But this kind of behavior was uncalled for. “I can’t wait for you to learn some manners, Mr. Avery. I believe neither your father nor I taught you this behavior,” he replied without any emotion. The new Professor decided to leave it at that. He didn’t want to waste valuable time on this.
He was glad at least some students seemed interested in his class. Enough to be willing to participate. When a Gryffindor student rose her hand, Graham eagerly listened. The man had to stay professional and resist a chuckle. Serving lazy wizarding families, huh? Sadly in some cases that was still true. Graham waited a little to see if anyone else wanted to contribute. A Ravenclaw boy spoke. If Pomme was here, Graham was sure the old elf would have a word with the boy and show him elves are cooler than goblins. Then again Graham was sure Pomme was one of a kind. She’d lived through four generations of Averys. And even when he had freed her from service, she refused to leave. The lady actually took his offer as an offence.
The blonde male smiled softly as his daughter asked a question, he’d come to that too. The last student to contribute something was a Ravenclaw girl. She… Confused him a little. Not in a negative sense. “Thank you, Miss. Clearwater and Mr. McCarthy. You’ve both gained ten points for your houses,” he smiled towards the two.
“Your classmates gave a good description on what the differences are between goblins and elves. Yes they’re both small humanoids with each their own type of magic. But they are very different from one another. For one goblins are considered beings and elves creatures. But I’ll leave that to your Defense and Magical creatures Professors for further instructions. There is one big reason why we’ve had plenty of wars with goblins and not with elves; their personality and culture. Goblins are prideful beings, they are extremely intelligent. It is often said they have a higher average intellect than humans do,” he started explaining a little more on the subject. “To answer your question, Miss Avery: elves and goblins have their own type of magic. Hence what we teach here isn’t useful for them. Although part-goblins will usually adapt the wizarding way of magic and they can join. Humans and elves cannot crossbreed.” Graham himself never understood how some people could be interested in having romantic relationships with goblins and giants. But to each their own.
“Because of their docile nature elves haven’t yet started to rebel. Most protests have come from witches and wizards. A lot of ancient houses have freed their elf servants but unfortunately some still continue the tradition.” If he hadn’t become the head of the family, Pomme still would be a servant. His uncle Felix, the current Minister of Magic wasn’t too fond of Graham’s decision.
Graham noticed he was rambling with extra facts that didn’t directly link to the subject. So he quickly cleared his throat and paused his ever running Ravenclaw mind. “If we want to learn from wars it is important we understand what caused them to start. There have been several Goblin rebellions. But there are three most notable. Listen carefully because this will return on your exams on the end this year. So I advise to take notes. Could anyone tell me the years of the three biggest rebellions. And the standing points from the Goblin and wizarding perspective?” GREYSON AVERY ,AGNES CLEARWATER ,ALEXANDER McCARTHY ,@gemini ,VIOLA ROSALINE ,OLIVIA JONES ,@suzie ,
raham's response had Greyson throwing back his head and barking out a laugh because 'manners.' How pureblood and proper, how... un-Greyson-like. "You'll be waiting a long time then, Graham. Maybe when daddy dearest gets out of Azkaban," he replied, smirking. His dear ol' dad would be rotting in Azkaban for the rest of his life.
As the stuffy prick carried on with his class, sounding like he was getting off on talking about goblins of all bloody things, Greyson's eyes rolled back in his skull and he didn't bother to even participate. He didn't give two shits about the goblin rebellions, why would he? It was all in the past, had nothing to do with the present.

After pulling out her parchment, ink pot and quill as advised by Professor Avery, Aggy moved onto one of his next questions, again raising her hand. Maybe she could gain some more house points, no doubt to make up for the ones she'll likely lose later in the year for being a stubborn, bull-headed Gryffindor of a girl who had a penchant for doing whatever she wanted.
"The biggest rebellions took place in 1612, 1752, and in the 18th century. There were a lot of reasons behind the rebellions, but most of them started because of witches and wizards treating them as sub-human and wanting to take away their rights," Aggy answered, shaking her head because seriously, more than two centuries had passed and yet when you looked at the way witches and wizards were treating werewolves and the way they treated goblins, the similarities were disgusting.

History of Magic was one of those classes that last year seemed leaps and bounds better on account of having Professor Binns 'teaching' it, therefore allowing Alex to catch up on his sleep in class. But this new Professor was different, seemed hawk-eyed and on the ball, and any notions about catching up on shut-eye was pretty much dispelled as soon as Alex walked through the door and the guy introduced himself.
Heading towards the back of the classroom as per usual, Alex took a seat next to a younger Slytherin girl, muttering, "Sorry, there's... no others available," as he pulled out his ink pot, parchment and quill... only to discover that the pot was empty. Swearing under his breath, Alex lifted up his bag to discover with horror that the entirety of the ink pot had spilled throughout it. Perhaps a bit too loudly, he swore yet again because shit, he didn't have any back ups either. No chance of note taking unless...
Glancing at the girl, he frowned because what if she wasn't willing to lend a stranger some ink? What if she started laughing at his stupidity? But Alex knew if he didn't ask now, he'd have to ask someone for their notes later and that was... infinitely worse. "Uh..." he started, awkwardly. "Can... do you, uh... mind if I borrow some... some ink?"
Suzie listened to the other students and the professor while she idly jotted down some notes she felt she'd need for exam materials. As much as she didn't enjoy classes she still tried to do well in them because if she did well then she could dance all summer long. Something she liked the most. She almost didn't notice she had someone come and sit next to her that is until he spoke up. Her eyes glanced up at the boy and..noticed the ink that had spilled in his bag.
"Oh..uh sure here." She pushed her ink towards him with a small smile on her lips. She wasn't the stereotypical slytherin or at least..she wasn't as bitchy as some of them could be.
Damien loved learning about History, and had a pretty decent knowledge on the subject. And he did fairly well in History of Magic, the Hufflepuff had been sitting in the middle of the classroom. And he had watched Professor Avery with intent, and when he asked them what came to mind when he thought Goblins, and about elves. The Hufflepuff had spoke, "Well for goblins, I think of mischievous little creatures who run Gringotts. And for elves, I think of House Elves, and how they are really cute, but have to enslaved until they are granted freedom." he said hoping to not sound too much. Even if he found the treatment wrong.
"Goblins also look kind of creepy, if you ask me." he said with a shrug. Even if he didn't hold anything against them, and he decided to say. "But that just adds to their character, after all." he smirked. Hoping his classmates wouldn't think of him as an know-it-all.
Graham gave his nephew a deadpanned look. He didn’t have time to waste. “If there is anything else, feel free to stay after class, Mr. Avery. If not, I ask you to quietly cooperate.” With that he ended the conversation and focussed back on the students who were willing to learn.
Miss. Clearwater seemed like an eager student. The new Professor nodded, she was heading into the direction he wanted to take this lesson. “Thank you, Miss. Clearwater,” he wrote down the points she earned for her house before turning to the class. “Many wars start out from a small conflict. Often it being fear from either or both the parties involved. Fear and greed are usually the two biggest reasons behind war. Take for example-” His attention was shifted towards a Ravenclaw boy who appeared to found it necessary to swear.
With an even pace Graham made his way over and stopped at Mr. Greenaway. His keen eye spotted the ink marks on the bag of the frustrated Ravenclaw. “Is there really a need for such language during class, Mr. Greenaway? Cursing while your classmates speak?” The History teacher shook his head and cleaned the ink with a wave of his wand. “You’re a wizard. Magic solves a lot of simple problems. Keep that in mind.” Graham wasn’t going to take points from the boy, he didn’t find it necessary. He then turned towards the girl sitting next to him. “Thank you, Miss. Jones.”
With that done, he returned to the head of the class. “Right, both elves and goblins are intelligible beings, not creatures, Mr. Cartwright. For those who are still confused, we consider creatures beings when they are humanoid and somewhat intelligent. Beings are: humans, sub classed in wizards, squibs and muggles, Giants and part giants, Goblins and all their subraces, vampires, hags, elves, werewolves but note only when they are in human form. Werewolves are considered beasts when transformed. And as last we have merpeople and centaurs although there is still a discussion these days if we want to consider them more ‘human’ than ‘animal’.” A lot of students didn’t know the basics of their world. Graham didn’t mind stranding from the topic if it meant the students learned something new.
