With the capture of Verandi Farley and several high-ranking Trossach members, the British wizarding world has finally caught a break. The rate of rogue werewolf attacks have started dropping at a steady rate and, hopefully, things will stay that way. The Ministry is starting to loosen some restrictions, like not arresting werewolves standing on the street for loitering, however there’s still an obvious power imbalance between wizardfolk and werewolves.
The Cotswolds pack are continuing to advocate for the rights of werewolves and petitioning to change the legislation that has been set in motion by the current Minister for Magic, whilst the remaining Trossachs members are trying to stay out of the spotlight and keep a low profile… for now.
Whilst the British wizarding world seems to have calmed down, the same cannot be said for over in Northern Europe where a rebellion of magical creatures has risen. The state of things has gotten so bad that the European Ministry has enacted protocols to protect those under eighteen whilst their adult witches and wizards fight to keep control of their countries.
Students from Durmstrang have been sent to Hogwarts to keep them safe and those not old enough to attend school have been sent to live with relatives or designated British Ministry officials outside of Europe for the time being.
Will the low rates of werewolf attacks in Britain continue? How long will Durmstrang students stay at Hogwarts? Will the creatures usurp the wizardfolk in Northern Europe? Only time will tell.
SEPTEMBER 2019 It's been a very long, eventful summer in the wizarding world. A baby was stolen, several high ranking Trossach members were imprisoned, and werewolf attacks have drastically dropped as a result. What will happen now school has returned?
MAY 2019 An attempt to capture the beta of the Trossachs has been launched. Were the Aurors successful in their mission? Go read more here!
Charlie was looking forward to the last day of the school year because she wanted to go home and sleep in her own bed without a worry in the world. Okay, so she had to worry about the things going on around her but she wasn’t going to live in fear because of the werewolves doing what they do best. Not all werewolves were bad, or that’s what she believed. The girl had overheard some words from the older students about the werewolves that were kicked out of Hogwarts - how they’re not to be trusted. The girl wondered why they’re going after the werewolves and not vampires. She knew that there’s a slight chance of being eaten alive by a vampire because a simple papercut can trigger them.
A slight yawn escaped Charlie as she sat at a table in the library and a book about vampires laid open along with her sketchbook. Yes, she was trying to find a photo of a vampire and drawing it for her own collection. Was it a bit dark? Nah. Charlie had done worse things over the years.
The library was one of Skye's favourite places, she had to admit, but she tried to keep that to herself as far as she could; she was quite a stereotypical enough Ravenclaw as it was without adding fuel to the metaphorical fire. Still, she could hardly avoid the place, and she certainly didn't want to. Yes, she did take notice of what other people thought, but that didn't mean that she had to care, and generally speaking, she didn't.
Merlin, it was busy, though, and she paused in the doorway, glancing from one side of the room to the other in search of a spare desk. It quickly became apparent that she would have no hope of keeping one to herself, and the redhead sighed under her breath, making towards one of her many supposed relatives. Plus Charlie was a Hufflepuff, which meant that she had to be nice to her; Skye was pretty sure that that was in the rules somewhere.
"Hey," she greeted the other girl softly, sharp eyes lingering on the page of the textbook open on the desk. Skye raised her eyebrow slightly. "Mind if I join you?"
Yes, Charlie was procrastinating - and not doing the studies she had promised to do. Most of her siblings would tell her to put the art away and do some studying but Charlie wasn’t feeling up for the task. Instead, she found sketching rather calming and nothing can stop her from doing so. As her hand drew the creature in her sketchbook, Charlie hummed softly as she was approached by someone. A voice interrupted her mojo and when she looked up, her eyebrows raised. It was one of her many siblings, but thankfully it wasn’t Ollie.
There was a smile on the girl’s face as she gestured to the seat across from her. ”Go ahead.” she said, looking down at her artwork. The girl was quite proud of her skills, something many didn’t quite understand.
Skye sank into the offered seat, dropping her bag to the floor. She would get her things out and start working on the essay which she'd had buzzing through her head all day in a minute or so, but for the moment, it would probably seem rude to bury herself in work immediately and ignore the Hufflepuff girl who had let her sit here in the first place. Especially since Charlie was apparently inclined to make conversation, and the redhead very carefully did not sigh as she rested her head on her hand.
"Not much. You know; same old, same old." Classes, and homework, and prefect duties, and Merlin only knew what else; they all seemed to build up further and further until she was amazed that she ever found time to sleep. "How about you? Doing OK?"
Charlie worked hard on her art; and people had judged her for it but she never really let the judgmental idiots get to her. She would ignore them, not caring what people were saying behind her back. At least there weren’t many rumors going around about her but that could change because she knew people would love to talk smack about someone. She wasn’t anyone’s flavor of the week though, so that was a good thing. ”I’m doing all right. Procrastinating. As usual.” she admitted as she looked at her little vampire on the page in her sketchbook.
”Can’t seem to focus on schoolwork right now. All I wanna do is sketch…” she said, sighing as she leaned back in her chair with a tiny pout.
"A skilled art," the redhead remarked with a sage nod, bending to extract a length of parchment from her bag, then returning for an inkwell and quill. "Procrastination is the thief of time, no one ever tell you that?" Skye could be in no way absolved from such a charge herself, and she had personal experience of the wisdom of such advice, but a little bit of hypocrisy was, she felt, allowable for a prefect, since she was supposed to be setting a good example. And so on and so forth. Technically, she supposed she also had big-sister privileges here, but she hadn't thought of herself in such terms for... Well, a while. And she really hadn't the slightest idea of how Charlie might take such a suggestion.
Charlie’s eyes trained on the sketchbook before her, her fingers playing with the pencil as she thought about what she would do in the future. Her art meant a lot to her, but it wasn’t a job she wanted. The girl had no idea what she’d do, but for now art seemed to be the most important work in her opinion. ”So I’ve heard…” the girl grumbled as she leaned forward to continue working on the vampires nose. To Charlie, drawing the face of anything was the hardest thing she can encounter.
”It’s going well. I’m trying to get his face...right…” she said and scooted the sketchbook toward Skye. ”You can look.”
Sliding the sketchbook the last foot or so across the table, the redhead contemplated the page for a moment. To be honest, what she knew about art could have been summarised on the tip of a paintbrush, but she did her best to look as though she had some idea of what she was doing and surveyed the sketch solemnly for long enough to give the impression that she was actually giving it more consideration than what she was actually doing, which was essentially to look at it and decide that yes, it was definitely much better than anything that she could have done, and, as such, was worthy of respect. "Oh, that's cool!" she commented, holding it up for a second.

There was a proud smile on Charlie’s face as she let her sister look at her artwork. Leaning back in her seat, Charlie decided to rest her hands for the time being and let her sister admire the art in front of her. It was always a talent Charlie had, the piles of sketchbooks at home proved it and even though some of the art she wanted to burn, her parents thought they’d be worth keeping. Maybe one day she’d become a famous artist and make money, and they’d be all proud of her. But it was all a dream and she wasn’t going to look forward to the future until she reached her sixth year. ”You like it?” she asked, unsure what her sister really thought about her vampire.
”You should see my other work,” she told Skye with a smile. ”You’re welcome to flip through the book,” she offered.
"It's really good!" Of course, Skye was in no position to make such an assessment and she would certainly never make an art critic, but she did like the drawing in front of her, and anyway, it would have been rude to say otherwise. Alienating herself from one of her new sisters would not have been an intelligent thing to do at this stage, and, being a Ravenclaw, Skye tried always to do the intelligent thing. She gave the other girl a nod, just to prove that she'd heard, and began flicking back through the sketchbook, making sure, however, to take the appropriate amount of time in admiring each one. It wouldn't do to make it look like a chore. "So, is this what you want to do for a living?"
