With the capture of Verandi Farley and several high-ranking Trossach members, the British wizarding world has finally caught a break. The rate of rogue werewolf attacks have started dropping at a steady rate and, hopefully, things will stay that way. The Ministry is starting to loosen some restrictions, like not arresting werewolves standing on the street for loitering, however there’s still an obvious power imbalance between wizardfolk and werewolves.
The Cotswolds pack are continuing to advocate for the rights of werewolves and petitioning to change the legislation that has been set in motion by the current Minister for Magic, whilst the remaining Trossachs members are trying to stay out of the spotlight and keep a low profile… for now.
Whilst the British wizarding world seems to have calmed down, the same cannot be said for over in Northern Europe where a rebellion of magical creatures has risen. The state of things has gotten so bad that the European Ministry has enacted protocols to protect those under eighteen whilst their adult witches and wizards fight to keep control of their countries.
Students from Durmstrang have been sent to Hogwarts to keep them safe and those not old enough to attend school have been sent to live with relatives or designated British Ministry officials outside of Europe for the time being.
Will the low rates of werewolf attacks in Britain continue? How long will Durmstrang students stay at Hogwarts? Will the creatures usurp the wizardfolk in Northern Europe? Only time will tell.
SEPTEMBER 2019 It's been a very long, eventful summer in the wizarding world. A baby was stolen, several high ranking Trossach members were imprisoned, and werewolf attacks have drastically dropped as a result. What will happen now school has returned?
MAY 2019 An attempt to capture the beta of the Trossachs has been launched. Were the Aurors successful in their mission? Go read more here!
Breakfast was always important, and it was especially so today; Skye was absolutely starving. To be fair, that was probably due at least in part to the fact that she had come very close to oversleeping this morning. Certainly, she was later getting up than usual, and that coupled with the number of stairs between her and her breakfast, that was quite enough to build an edge to her appetite by the time that she had entered the Great Hall and realised that the spaces still available around the Ravenclaw table were at a definite premium. Quietly, she groaned to herself, seeing that her own friends seemed to be more or less blocked in by a rowdy group of seventh year boys, and she scanned the faces down both sides to find someone who might be amenable to offering her a seat. There were a few moments where she thought she might have to continue to be hungry, but then her gaze caught a certain first year, and the redhead nodded to herself, heading purposefully towards her. Thankfully, there was a gap next to the other girl, and Skye dropped into it as casually as she could contrive. "Morning, Mia," she greeted her adoptive sister as cheerily as she could manage under the circumstances. "Sleep well?"
Mia had spent most of her meal times eating alone due to most of her friends being in different houses. The girl knew she had to make more friends, but she didn’t want to be a bother to anyone. Sometimes she’d find David and sit with him, cheering the male up because he didn’t mind the company and wanted to spend time with his sisters when he isn’t buried in writing in his novel. There were times when she’d sit next to him and they barely say a word to each other. That morning, David was nowhere to be found and she had taken a seat. The girl sighed to herself as she piled food onto her plate and turned her head when someone sat next to her. This was new.
She turned her head to look at her adopted sister, smiling at her in return. ”I did yes.” she said and eyed her sister. ”Did you sleep?”
"Eventually," she admitted, reaching for a plate of sausages and beginning to help herself. Merlin, she was starving, and she hoped that the house elves hadn't gone back to bed because she definitely got the feeling that she was going to be needing a second helping. A glance at the clock warned her that she hadn't long left before the bell rang and the next set of lessons commenced, and she helped herself rather more hurriedly to a few rashers of bacon, a fried egg, and plenty of toast and butter. Skye would have to confess that her lateness in getting to sleep the previous night had been due to the fact that she'd been absorbed in a book, rather than any form of insomnia, but as excuses went, she thought that that was a pretty solid one. "Been worse." As quickly as she dared, the redhead changed the subject. "So, have you got any exciting lessons lined up for today?"
Mia grabbed a slice of toast off her plate, biting into it as she studied her sister for a moment. It looked like she didn’t sleep, and Mia understood that sometimes time would get away from a person. Maybe it was either just lying there not being able to close your eyes or got into some sort of fun that took hours to finish. Mia herself was someone who’d accidentally staying up late because she was doing homework at the last possible minute. At least she had done it all the day before so she can sleep in a wee bit longer.
”Not that I know of…” she said, not really looking forward to her lessons today. Maybe it was because Declan Tyrell was there.
Embarking upon the heaped plate in front of her with rather more enthusiasm than grace, the redhead had her mouth too full to be able to respond to her sister verbally, so she was restricted to merely nodding a few times until she finished her mouthful. "Aye, well... Better than sitting around with nothing to do, isn't it?" Honestly, she didn't know; she would quite often have preferred to sit around doing nothing to taking Potions lessons, for example, but it wasn't a choice that she had, and so Skye found it better to try and take a positive view on such things.
Mia looked toward the Slytherin table, spotting Declan Tyrell doing what he did best. Sometimes she wanted to tell that boy off for being a jerk and acting like he was all tha. Just because you’re from a family, from money, doesn’t mean you get away with things. Or so, at least Mia believed that. There was a reason she disliked the boy, he wasn’t friendly and all that crap. She noted that sh would stay away from him because he’s just not worth being a friend.
Mia raised an eyebrow at Skye when she asked her how’s life, and it made Mia want to complain. Instead, she let out a sigh. ”Boring.”
Skye raised an eyebrow, mirroring the younger girl's expression. "Oh, is that right? Well, that's no fun." She had to admit that her thoughts on her own life at the moment were more or less the same; she seemed to be spending most of it flitting between prefect duties, revision, homework, and reading. Occasionally she managed to fit in a bit of sleep and even the odd meal here and there if she was lucky.
"What's so boring about it, then?" The redhead supposed that she ought to take an interest in her new younger siblings. Quite what she was expected to do, she wasn't sure, but then one step at a time.
”I have no friends.” the girl said and looked down at her breakfast in slight shame because, it was true. No one wanted to hangout with her beside her family or that blonde boy from Slytherin. The female was a little depressed about having no one she’d be able to hang out with unless it was with family. Whenever she’d sit with someone from her own family, they’d talk about something that she didn't care for.
Why was Skye taking a sudden interest in her? ”It’s not your problem. Forget I said anything.” she said and grabbed her juice to take a sip from it. Her eyes were on her food because she did not want to look at Skye.
Well then. What the hell was she supposed to say to that? 'Oh dear' didn't quite have the required tone of sympathy, but then she didn't want to go too far in the other direction, and she got the feeling that Mia didn't really want to be telling her any of this in any case. Counselling had never been Skye's strong point, which had made certain aspects of her job as a prefect more than a little difficult over the past few months. Perhaps she would get better with practice, but it hadn't happened yet.
"Look..." she began, then stopped, largely because she had no idea where she was going with the rest of the sentence. Oh, God, why did she get herself into these sorts of situations?
To be honest, Mia was ashamed of herself for not getting friends during her first year at Hogwarts and it was quite depressing. Sure, she thought she had some but they ditched her for other people and forgot all about her. It hurt her, but she wasn’t going to point that out. Maybe she should hang out with some of her sisters that want her around if they’re not busy snogging stupid boys. Why did they think Hogwarts was a dating service?
There was a frown when she heard Skye speak and suddenly stopped causing the first year to look at her with confusion on her expression. ”Yes?” she asked, confused as to why Skye stopped speaking. Was she having a stroke?
Skye sighed. Well, she was going to have to come up with something now; what it was going to be, she still didn't know, but she was just going to have to open her mouth and see what happened. It was not an approach that she, as a Ravenclaw, favoured, but it was what she had, and so she would work with it. "Look," she repeated, buying herself about another second, "I know we don't exactly know each other well." Understatement of the century. Probably the millennium. "But... I'm trying to take this whole sister thing seriously. Ish. And I know I'm really bad at it, but I want to help, so if you ever want someone to talk to, or even just to sit with..."
