With the capture of Verandi Farley and several high-ranking Trossach members, the British wizarding world has finally caught a break. The rate of rogue werewolf attacks have started dropping at a steady rate and, hopefully, things will stay that way. The Ministry is starting to loosen some restrictions, like not arresting werewolves standing on the street for loitering, however there’s still an obvious power imbalance between wizardfolk and werewolves.
The Cotswolds pack are continuing to advocate for the rights of werewolves and petitioning to change the legislation that has been set in motion by the current Minister for Magic, whilst the remaining Trossachs members are trying to stay out of the spotlight and keep a low profile… for now.
Whilst the British wizarding world seems to have calmed down, the same cannot be said for over in Northern Europe where a rebellion of magical creatures has risen. The state of things has gotten so bad that the European Ministry has enacted protocols to protect those under eighteen whilst their adult witches and wizards fight to keep control of their countries.
Students from Durmstrang have been sent to Hogwarts to keep them safe and those not old enough to attend school have been sent to live with relatives or designated British Ministry officials outside of Europe for the time being.
Will the low rates of werewolf attacks in Britain continue? How long will Durmstrang students stay at Hogwarts? Will the creatures usurp the wizardfolk in Northern Europe? Only time will tell.
SEPTEMBER 2019 It's been a very long, eventful summer in the wizarding world. A baby was stolen, several high ranking Trossach members were imprisoned, and werewolf attacks have drastically dropped as a result. What will happen now school has returned?
MAY 2019 An attempt to capture the beta of the Trossachs has been launched. Were the Aurors successful in their mission? Go read more here!

What was wrong with her?
Katrin had only come to the library to study, to make sure this essay for her sister was as perfect as could be. Of all the professors who she wanted to impress, that one was first on the list, the one who should be closest to her. But Katrin's mind couldn't seem to focus on anything, and it was making her upset. Frustrated with herself, she started to doodle on a scrap piece of parchment until she realized she had a grip on the quill so hard she felt was going to break it. She threw down the feather in disgust, like it was a particularly nasty greenhouse plant, and stared intently at her doodles. Star charts. Messy ones, but star charts nonetheless. Maybe she should've tried Astronomy today instead.
No. She'd make this work. She had to. Crumpling the scrap parchment into a ball--and then squishing it further down, for neatness's sake--she got up to toss it out, smoothing out her hair and brushing off her dress as she walked. If only she could have vanished it and avoided the weird feeling she got while walking between the tables. Maybe she was sick. That seemed like a more logical explanation than anything.
With a tiny sigh, she walked back to her own table, picking up her bag, parchment, ink, and quill. What was she supposed to do now? Look like an idiot who couldn't write a paper in front of everyone? There were a few of her classmates around, a couple being her own Housemates, which wasn't too surprising. Not like she expected the Gryffindors and Hufflepuffs to care much about the library anyway. Her eyes swept over the room, though they seemed to keep landing on a certain familiar blond head.

It wasn't rare to spot Edmund in the library, it was like a home away from his bedroom at home. Edmund was buried in books once more while writing a paper on dark matter. The blonde had been brainstorming on why dark matter is the future of science. Sure he was still a firm believer of string theory but even when he hated to admit it he felt like string theory was hitting dead ends left and right from him.
The boy was very alert, it came with the fact that he had a twin brother who's existence no matter how much he loved him sometimes was made to terrorize him. Especially his studies. Sure they would have fun together, trade places with each other and Edmund would die for Ezra but he was happy to know Ezra was not here, not bothering him and his work.
While he was searching his books he realized he didn't have the right book. With a sigh Edmund got onto his feet, his body turning towards the book shelves behind him when his eyes caught a classmate looking at him. Suddenly he felt very self conscious, was his tie twisted? Were his clothes crooked? With a frown he looked at his perfectly styled clothing and back at the girl.
"Are you alright?" he asked her and picked up the book he wanted from the bottom shelf before looking at Katrin again. "Do you need help with anything?" he asked in a hushed tone because it was still a library they were at.

Was she staring into space now? Losing her mind? She had been standing there not doing anything... how embarrassing. Katrin blinked as Edmund actually spoke to her, his voice startling her a bit even with how quiet it was. "I'm fine, yes," she said, her voice matter-of-fact, as if she really was fine, which she was. She had to be. "I was--" not having any trouble with Potions, her brain supplied, reminding her not to look stupid, not at all in front of Edmund, "--just looking for another place to study. It's too noisy where I was sitting."
It wasn't why she had gotten up, but it was an excuse true to herself. Katrin hated noisy people. For seven years she had thought she was an only child, and that life had been perfect for someone like her: everything was always in its place, since she was the only one to put it there. Organized and neat and under control. She preferred her life always under control. But not all of her siblings shared the same attitude, which always stressed her out. Avery in particular seemed to upset everything Katrin did on purpose. Obnoxious weirdo.
And at the moment, Katrin felt like her own body itself wasn't under control. Her chest felt weird. She couldn't focus on anything. She was staring like a particularly stupid owl. And she didn't like any bit of it. Looking down at the hand that was holding the parchment, she could see that her nails had been bitten again--when had that happened? She really hoped Edmund didn't notice that. "Maybe you can tell me a better place to sit?" she asked. "Since some people at this school can't even figure out what a library is for?"

Was it normal for females to stand in a spot and just... stand there? Did she even realize she was doing nothing but standing in a spot like a pillar? Edmund wasn't one to judge but he judged, he judged hard. Maybe she was just like his sister, weird. He loved his sister which was the only reason he didn't try to puppy train her to act a little more... normal. Then again his normal wasn't her normal and neither was it Ezra's normal so what could be defined as normal might not be... normal? Ezra took a mental note to write a theory about that.
"You can sit here.. it's quiet here. I make sure of it." he was very convincing when he wanted to be to make sure he was able to sit in peace. If Katrin could sit in silence and not be a rambling girl then maybe he would tolerate her more than he does his own brother. The boy motioned to the table with his free hand and headed over there to make some room for her books as well. "What were you studying?" he asked only slightly curious about her mental capacity.
He was sure he wouldn't be able to talk science with her so he needed to know how much she could handle so he could adjust his own conversation material to her level. "Have a seat.. do you have eye problems? I can guide you to the nurse." he said as he did notice her staring like a deer in headlights. "Noisy people are the worst, don't worry though, I will not be a noisy annoyance to you." he was annoying alright but that is something his rper thinks and not Edmund.

"Ah... thanks," Katrin said, managing a small smile. She walked over to the chair with quick little steps, holding her skirt as she sat down to avoid wrinkling it. Near the bookshelves as they were, they had a bit of shelter from the other students, and she had to admit that he was right--it was quieter in this spot. On her lap, she opened her Potions book again, smoothing out the pages with her fingers to make it lay flat--perhaps spending more time on that than she normally would have, but Edmund wouldn't notice, would he? The bitten edges of her nails above the purple paint made her wince, and she curled her hands into fists, hiding the ruined manicure. "I've been working on the Potions essay," she said, "and you?"
Before she could get back to thinking about potions, though, she heard something that made her head snap up, her eyes narrowed. "I don't have any problems, thank you. I don't need the hospital wing," she said, gripping the side of her textbook tightly. The cover creaked under her hands just like the quill had only a few minutes ago. And now Edmund thought she was an idiot, and she wanted nothing except to run away, back to the safety of her own bed, where she wouldn't have to think about the opinions of anyone but herself, certainly not the opinions of Edmund Rosaline.

Edmund didn't quite understand the female human being. He barely was able to understand other males because none were like him. Edmund considered himself as put together and above everyone else and so far there were no equals to him. There was this one person but he seemed far too interested in meddling with other people where Edmund had no interest in other people or their lives. He didn't care for gossip or any useless information to occupy his brain.
When the girl mentioned she was working on her potions essay, Edmund sat down with his book on dark matter and frowned for a moment. "Right, it was a nice one but too simply in my opinion. I look forward to advanced potions when I'm older." he said and opened his book, trying to find the right page. Apparently something he said offended the girl because she got a sharpness to her tone that he didn't really appreciate.
His eyes slid over to the other girl, falling onto her hands gripping onto the book. "I believe you. You can calm down now." he said with a frown still on his features before turning back to his paper. He didn't really care if she was doing well or not, she seemed to care way too much. It wasn't like his question was offensive so he just waved it off as a lady thing.
"I'm working on a research paper about Dark Matter and how it helps define the universe." he said as he penned down a few formula's. Edmund had been injured due to the dance and this was the perfect time for him to catch up before the holidays and before the home life was going to stop him from being able to study even more.
"I won't bore you with the details. My brother says no one really cares anyway."

I believe you. Something about those words made Katrin's hands uncurl, letting her sharp breath out slowly. "I think I could probably make some more advanced potions now, too," she said, determined to save face. "I wish we weren't forced to have class with everyone slower." Now she definitely wasn't going to be asking for help finishing the essay. It wasn't like it was something that should've been too difficult for her, anyway--it was just a bad day she was having. Normally she was good at Potions, as she should be. She would never want to have to live with being bad at Potions. Opening her ink pot again and picking up her quill, she dipped the tip in the ink and held it poised above the parchment--
--and nothing. She didn't know what to write.
It was all wrong! It wasn't right! With a huff, she set the quill aside again. Hopefully the ink wouldn't dry all over it before she had the chance to clean it. She didn't yet know the charm for siphoning liquids, and she made a mental note to herself to learn it, even if it might be something far above her intended level. That was something she would have to find out.
"Dark matter sounds--fascinating," she said, trying to give herself an air of nonchalance. In truth, she had never heard of such a concept, and she made another mental note, to find out what it was, so that next time she talked to Edmund--just because he was her classmate so of course she would have to talk to him in the future, she told herself--she wouldn't be so wide-eyed. "I wouldn't mind if you wanted to talk about it. This essay will be easy anyway. I can do it later." I can do it when you won't notice I'm having trouble.

If there was one way to win Edmund's heart, if he cared enough for you to get close, was talk science with him. No one seemed to understand why it was so important to him. Sometimes he wondered if he was meant to be a Ravenclaw, he surely had more brains than that entire house. Edmund had been studying it since he could read, studying the stars and the formula's. One day he'd be a strong and powerful wizard as well as a nobel prize winner.
His eyes looked away from the girl and back to his studies. Edmund's eyebrow was arched ever so slightly when the girl told him that dark matter was fascinating. Well of course it was, otherwise why would he waste his time on it? "I know it is." he said simply and looked up at the girl again. She then said she wanted him to talk about it and he smiled a bit.
"Dark matter is thought to be responsible for much in the universe." he said and showed her some drawings from his book. "See? I am studying to see if it actually holds it all together.. like... space glue if you will." in simple terms explained to a ten year old.

Katrin rolled up her essay parchment, placing it neatly on the table next to her and setting her quill next to it. She knew she needed to clean the pen with magic, or at least wipe it off so it wouldn't become clogged, but she'd thrown away her scrap parchment already. But she wasn't going to dare try a spell she wasn't sure about yet. She tucked the quill behind the roll of parchment, hoping it wouldn't make a mess, and that Edmund wouldn't see it. Leaning onto her elbows, she looked over at where Edmund was sitting with his book, squinting at the pages to see if she could make out what was in the pictures.
"Space glue," she repeated. They had never covered such things in Astronomy, but they were also only second years, so lessons were often about the simplest of things. "So it must be magical, yes? If it is so important?" She didn't understand any of what the diagrams in Edmund's book meant, but she could pretend she did. As she leaned across the table, her hand nearly brushed the one that was holding the book out to her--not close enough to really touch, but enough that she thought she might feel the hairs on the back of Edmund's hand. A shiver ran down her spine, and she pulled her hand away, feeling suddenly very cold. Or was it hot? She didn't know, but she didn't like it.

Edmund was penning down his knowledge on the subject and cocked his head a bit as he watched Katrin for a moment. She seemed interested and not making fun of him which was... new to say the least. Edmund surely didn't see it coming and now he wondered if she was making fun of him here. The boy watched her look at the book, her eyes squinting like that would help her focus anymore than she already was.
"Well you'd think that but I want to prove that there is no magic involved at all." he told her and eyed his books for a moment. Of course he debated on the fact that science could be involved but he never really thought it was because... why would it be? It wouldn't need magic if his theory was right.
He noticed her move pretty fast, he barely felt her touch and frowned. "Are you cold? Do you need my jacket?"

Under the table, Katrin's hands balled into fists, angry at herself for being so weird. She wasn't weird, she was never going to let anyone think she was, least of all Edmund Rosaline who was always so smart and good at things--and where had that thought come from? It was just that it was rare, she thought, reassuring herself, that another second-year was actually more intelligent than your average troll. Edmund's twin wasn't like that, so how could it have anything to do with how he looked, right? It wasn't at all like the thought of touching his hand made her want to shiver again. She didn't like that thought, so she shoved it away, into that spot at the back of her mind where she kept all the thoughts she didn't want under strict lock and key.
Of all the thoughts back there, this was far from the worst one, but it was still something Katrin didn't want to think about. She wasn't that kind of girl. She hated boys--and men--and all the chaos they created in her life. Even her favorite brothers made stupid decisions on the regular, and that wasn't even starting on her least favorites.
"Yes, I'm just cold," she said, as if she felt the need to prove it to Edmund. "Give me the jacket. Maybe it will help."

Edmund had been sitting here, trying to explain the field in science he liked and somehow he felt like he was insulting her because she seemed to struggle. With a small frown he just watched her and when she finally said she was cold and wanted his jacket he just took it off and covered her with it from behind. Edmund was at all times still a gentleman, even when he thought most females were dumb apes who only cared about looking pretty when all they looked like was a clown.
"There you go... hopefully you will feel warmer soon." he told her and turned to look back at his book. "Do you like potions?" he remembered her paper and maybe talking about science was not the way to go here. He didn't feel very surprised about it, no one he knew liked science as much as he did.
"Do you want to be a professor too?" he remembered the potions professor being her sister and Edmund heard she was a potions master as well.

Katrin didn't dare pull the jacket all the way on, but she did grab the edges and wrap it a little tighter around herself. Just so she wouldn't be cold, she told herself. Even if they were inside with all sorts of cozy fires, it was the middle of winter. And she had always been sort of small and thin, so the cold got to her easily.
It wasn't at all that she felt like she might actually be colder with the jacket on her shoulders.
"Of course I like Potions. It's my favorite subject." Katrin said it as matter-of-factly as if she had said the sky was blue. Ever since her sister had gotten the job as the new Potions professor, she'd resolutely decided it was going to be her best subject, even if she was probably better at others. But impressing people like Professor O'Connor--well, it sort of mattered, in the sense that Katrin didn't want a single person to look down on her, but it didn't matter as much as Ari's approval did.
"I suppose being a professor would be nice. I bet I could do it." It would take an Outstanding in her N.E.W.T.s, but she was the kind of person who would never be happy with herself if she got anything less. "And you? Will you be Astronomy professor someday?" That was a safe topic, much safer than any discussion of the temperature of her body.

Maybe it was a biological thing about Edmund that allowed him to be never cold in any situation. He radiated warmth a lot though he didn't sweat all the time. His choice of extreme hygiene stopped that from happening and he wished his brother adopted the same habits. With a cock of his head he watched Katrin a bit. She seemed uncomfortable taking his jacket and yet she wanted the jacket to keep herself warm. Was it a pride thing or a girl thing? Though he tried to get to know her, take advice from his sister for once and not push a person away and he wasn't sure if it was the best course of action.
"Is it? What about it attracts your attention so much?" he asked a bit curious because the science behind potions was interesting but never seemed to make sense to him. How did some strange ingredients make a potion with magical properties yet they are never used to save lives of people who are unaware of these magical properties. Edmund thought it was quite unfair and though he wasn't going to share his thoughts, they lingered right now in his mind that was supposed to be meant to be occupied with scientific views.
"I would never lower myself to the standards of teaching people about the quite obvious matters." he told her and frowned. That was quite insulting. "Astronomy is so simple even a toddler should be able to do it without guidance, not to mention it doesn't matter at all to people's lives." he said and shrugged. "At least teaching subjects like potions matter whereas Astronomy certainly does not." his shoulders rolling into a shrug once more. "It is admirable to follow into your sister's footsteps, mine just.. tends to be weird."

In truth, what attracted Katrin to Potions was her sister. What she felt like she was best at were jinxes and hexes, but that wasn't for the professor she wanted to impress. And it wasn't for Edmund to know. No, she had the intense feeling that she didn't want Edmund to see for a second if she wasn't good at something. Yes, that was how she felt in general, absolutely refusing to fail in front of anyone, ever, but the overwhelming urge to look smart in front of Edmund was new.
And so she had to come up with an answer. "Because it's very precise," she said, and that wasn't a lie. "It's a subject where, if you are very good at measuring and mixing exactly as it's meant to be, then you'll succeed. I like that." Katrin didn't like things that weren't precise. She liked knowing that if she did everything right, then it would turn out well. Unpredictable things were the worst.
She felt something drop heavily in her stomach as Edmund rejected her idea of becoming the Astronomy professor. She'd been trying to say a nice thing and it had gone all wrong and she wasn't stupid, she wasn't, and--
"Yes, potions are very important," she could finally say, trying to keep her voice light. "I'm lucky to have a sister who's good with them. Who's your sister? I'm not sure if I know her."
