With the capture of Verandi Farley and several high-ranking Trossach members, the British wizarding world has finally caught a break. The rate of rogue werewolf attacks have started dropping at a steady rate and, hopefully, things will stay that way. The Ministry is starting to loosen some restrictions, like not arresting werewolves standing on the street for loitering, however there’s still an obvious power imbalance between wizardfolk and werewolves.
The Cotswolds pack are continuing to advocate for the rights of werewolves and petitioning to change the legislation that has been set in motion by the current Minister for Magic, whilst the remaining Trossachs members are trying to stay out of the spotlight and keep a low profile… for now.
Whilst the British wizarding world seems to have calmed down, the same cannot be said for over in Northern Europe where a rebellion of magical creatures has risen. The state of things has gotten so bad that the European Ministry has enacted protocols to protect those under eighteen whilst their adult witches and wizards fight to keep control of their countries.
Students from Durmstrang have been sent to Hogwarts to keep them safe and those not old enough to attend school have been sent to live with relatives or designated British Ministry officials outside of Europe for the time being.
Will the low rates of werewolf attacks in Britain continue? How long will Durmstrang students stay at Hogwarts? Will the creatures usurp the wizardfolk in Northern Europe? Only time will tell.
SEPTEMBER 2019 It's been a very long, eventful summer in the wizarding world. A baby was stolen, several high ranking Trossach members were imprisoned, and werewolf attacks have drastically dropped as a result. What will happen now school has returned?
MAY 2019 An attempt to capture the beta of the Trossachs has been launched. Were the Aurors successful in their mission? Go read more here!

Care of Magical Creatures had finished for the day, and Mia-Rose had set her bag on a stump to pack away her wand and pull out a sweater. The spring day had been warm enough while the sun was out, but as clouds had covered the sky, she was starting to shiver without it. She tugged it over her head, feeling the crackle of static as her curly red hair rubbed against the wool. Frustrated, she rummaged in her bag for a hair tie, pulling it up into a bun before it could get even frizzier.
And then she heard a noise from the forest. She cocked her head to the side, freezing in place to make sure the sound was what she thought it was--yes, definitely some sort of animal, a small one if she had anything to say about it. And people thought the forest was terrifying! No, there was some sort of young creature in pain out there, not even that far from the forest's edge if she could hear it from here, and Mia-Rose, thinking about her little cat back in the castle, couldn't just leave without seeing what was going on.
She glanced around at her other classmates who were leaving--was anyone else paying as much attention, or was she, as always, the only one who paid attention to the world around her? And then she glanced back at Almir--yes, his back was turned, so she could slip into the forest now, if she was quick about it. She made her way over to the trees, making sure there were no prefects around who would tell on her for it.

** this was much better before i lost the post**
Another successful CoMC class over with, Evan had a large smile on his dial. The air was fresh with a gentle breeze playing with the trees at the edge of the forest and the sun was warm enough that Evan had loosened off his neck tie part way through class. The boy enjoyed the days the class were out in the field, a great chance to stretch his growing legs and see many of the creatures in their own habitat.
Speaking of - Evan paused putting his notepad in his woollen satchel in favour of listening to a noise that had come from the forest. He looked around and saw that at least one other student had heard - or was she just sneaking off for fun?
Evan quickly caught up to the girl, about to tap her on the shoulder before he realised it was Mia-Rose; she was just as prickly as her namesake and so he settled for a simple; "did you hear that too?" he asked, his voice low so as not to scare the creatures away.
Carefully approaching the sound, Evan paused for a moment so that he could listen again. Sure enough, a small sound came once again and Evan gestured towards his classmate. "I think it's coming from over there - " he moved a little to the right and had to stop once again. Through a thick patch of brambles, Evan could detect the flash of red fox fur. "In there, Mia Rose. I think he's stuck," it was undeniable as a whimper reached his ear; but it was so tiny. A ball of fox fur, really.
Evan was quickly on his knees, opening the enchanted satchel to get his wand and his cloak ready to extract the kit.

Her ears trying to tune themselves to the sound of the whimpering, Mia-Rose jumped when she heard footsteps and a voice behind her, whirling around to narrow her eyes at the culprit. Someone much taller and heavier than she was--Don't you dare make any more noise, we'll lose it, and then what will happen to it? she thought to herself, crossing her arms. "Of course I did. That's what I was listening for," she whispered, green eyes turning back in the direction of the whimpers. "Has to be there," she added as Evan made his way into the forest, not wanting to look like she didn't know what she was doing.
She followed him over, boots making soft squishing noises on the moss of the forest floor, and peered at the spot he was pointing at. A patch of bright red fur poked out, hair just like her own, if it were much shorter and less curly. "How'd he get there?" she asked, crouching down next to it and Evan, her irritation forgotten in the need to do something. She couldn't see or hear the kit's mother anywhere. Maybe it was just that she was afraid of humans, of course, but with the amount of crying that the little animal was doing...
"Be careful. We don't want him to run away if he's really hurt," she said quietly, pulling her wand out from her pocket. "Can you catch him in that cloak?"

Normally quite a perceptive young man to the subtle body language of his fellow humans, the fact that Mia-Rose was so very annoyed by his presence was completely lost on Evan this time. Why? Because all of his attention was straining to hear the soft cry of the small animal that they were searching for. When she answered him, he nodded intently because yep, that sounded legit. His bright eyes searched the forest as he moved towards the sound, Mia-Rose as silent as a shadow close behind him.
"I don't know... he looks like he should still be in the den," Evan replied in a low voice. After many seasons in the forests around his family's estates, Evan had learned a decent amount of fox physiology and had raised a kit or two. "Vixens usually hide the entrance to a den in brambles like these for protection but... I yes I will be careful," Evan nodded as he folded his cloak over his hands and forearms. "That's the plan. Do you think you can clear away some of the brambles with your wand as I reach in? I prefer not to cast spells on the animals themselves... even though petrificus totalis would make catching injured animals much easier," he said the last part as a slight afterthought.
"Be ready if he spooks - if I miss him you'll have to catch him. Ready? One... two..."

"Then we can hope he would run back into the den instead of out," Mia-Rose said, sweeping her eyes over the brambles. It was never good for such a small animal to be injured, but being warm and with its mother would give it a better chance than if it were out in the forest on its own. Still, if they could use magic to fix the whole problem, that would be the best of all, she thought. It may be the Forbidden Forest, but not every creature here was magical, certainly not the foxes and rabbits and deer who were the same as in any other forest.
Pulling off her school robe from over the top of her sweater, she positioned herself on the other side of the kit from Evan, ready to catch him if he ran the other way. She knew that if it was injured, they needed to heal it, but she hoped that catching the little creature wouldn't create more problems--would they ever find its mother, or were they going to be stuck with it and somehow have to teach it how to be a fox?
"Alright. I'm ready," she said, holding her wand near the brambles. "Three... two... one... diffindo." The brambles started to break apart, as if snapped by an invisible force.
