With the capture of Verandi Farley and several high-ranking Trossach members, the British wizarding world has finally caught a break. The rate of rogue werewolf attacks have started dropping at a steady rate and, hopefully, things will stay that way. The Ministry is starting to loosen some restrictions, like not arresting werewolves standing on the street for loitering, however there’s still an obvious power imbalance between wizardfolk and werewolves.
The Cotswolds pack are continuing to advocate for the rights of werewolves and petitioning to change the legislation that has been set in motion by the current Minister for Magic, whilst the remaining Trossachs members are trying to stay out of the spotlight and keep a low profile… for now.
Whilst the British wizarding world seems to have calmed down, the same cannot be said for over in Northern Europe where a rebellion of magical creatures has risen. The state of things has gotten so bad that the European Ministry has enacted protocols to protect those under eighteen whilst their adult witches and wizards fight to keep control of their countries.
Students from Durmstrang have been sent to Hogwarts to keep them safe and those not old enough to attend school have been sent to live with relatives or designated British Ministry officials outside of Europe for the time being.
Will the low rates of werewolf attacks in Britain continue? How long will Durmstrang students stay at Hogwarts? Will the creatures usurp the wizardfolk in Northern Europe? Only time will tell.
SEPTEMBER 2019 It's been a very long, eventful summer in the wizarding world. A baby was stolen, several high ranking Trossach members were imprisoned, and werewolf attacks have drastically dropped as a result. What will happen now school has returned?
MAY 2019 An attempt to capture the beta of the Trossachs has been launched. Were the Aurors successful in their mission? Go read more here!
Ludwig's first attempt at gathering information about his brother from his fellow students had ended up rather inconclusive. The girl from the Hufflepuff house was aware of Wolfgang's existence, but that was it. She'd mentioned Quidditch and patrols -- would that mean he was one of their prefects? That... That didn't seem completely improbable, Ludwig thought.
But that was it. He wasn't a Hufflepuff, and, since the girl hadn't been sure about either options, Ludwig didn't feel like snooping around for lists just yet. He'd try someone from another house.
After lunch he returned to the library to finish putting away some books. In the Potions section, Ludwig found himself alone with an absolutely stunning redhead, whose robe trim was green. That was Slytherin, right? What was it again, cunning? Perhaps that's where Wolfgang had been sorted?
"Good day," he started, pushing another tome into its place in the shelf, "I don't mean to interrupt anything important, I just have a few questions, if you have time?"

the state of dreaming
The Hogwarts library was meant to be peaceful. For people like Isobel, in their seventh year, to study without interruptions, without the sound of their younger Housemates running around the common room and screaming as they did.
Not that Isobel had ever been so dedicated to studying that she would spend all day in the library like some people did, but the truth was that books could make a distraction. From the fact that Wolfgang had been avoiding her and avoiding classes, from the argument she was having over owl with her parents about letting her go to Hogsmeade.
But it didn't seem as if she would be left in peace for long, as the sound of someone speaking drifted along the shelves toward her, and she glanced up, annoyed, before she recognized a face she'd seen only once before. A rush of cold went through her, pooling in the pit of her stomach as the conversation she'd had with Grace just last week returned to her.
Because the last time she'd seen this man, it had been in O'Connor's class, when they were studying Boggarts.
Her fingers curled around the edge of her book, gripping tight, knuckles turning white as Isobel gave her politest smile to Wolfgang's brother. The one she knew now had been the favorite, had gotten everything the two younger ones would never.
"Good day," she said, tone icy. "And you would be interrupting my studying because?" For this situation she had to act every bit the poised lady she always dreamed of being, and she was determined not to drop the air.
As stunning as the redhead was, she made it clear that she was unapproachable. Perhaps she thought that Ludwig was here to flirt with her -- a defense mechanism against the advances of a man several years older than her -- but she needn't worry about that. Voice so cold you'd think she was yet another Durmstrang professor, not a student in Hogwarts.
"I apologize for infringing upon your precious time... Let us get right to the point then. My name is Ludwig Kallenbach, the Durmstrang Library Assistant. I am looking for my brother Wolfgang Kallenbach, and you look about the right age to know him." He explained, turning to face her, his back straight and one arm bending behind his back, making him stand up straighter.
"Due to unfortunate circumstances I've not seen him in quite a few years, and I've no idea how he looks or which house here he is sorted in. I'm looking for anyone of the students who could point me in the right direction."

the state of dreaming
This man, the one who looked far too much like Wolfgang, was just as formal as Wolfgang's public persona, and yet he was nothing like Isobel's boyfriend at all. He lacked all of the charm--or perhaps that was just because Isobel was primed to view his face as something to fear, but still, she felt as if she was a fair judge of charm. It was, after all, the kind of thing she had spent her life working to have. Ludwig--he didn't have it.
And just as she'd feared, just as Grace had warned, he immediately asked after Wolfgang.
Isobel drew her shoulders up, spine just as straight as Ludwig's, as if she was attempting to rival his height. There was no indication that he knew just who she was to Wolfgang, and she would prefer to keep it that way. The less he knew, the better--the easier it would be for her to find her boyfriend and make a plan for what to do about Ludwig's presence.
"I do know him." That was an understatement. "But I would think it would be rather easy to find one's own brother," she said, smile pleasant. "I would think that if he's not responding to your search, it may be that he doesn't want to be located."
As soon as Wolfgang's name left Ludwig's mouth, the redhead became tense. Her back straightened and her grey eyes were cold as ice, as if she was willing Ludwig to disappear with her gaze alone. And yet, the smile on her face was reserved, yet pleasant. She was putting up a front.
Her words were tinged with venom, too. Her roundabout ways didn't fool Ludwig -- she knew a great deal about Wolfgang, otherwise she wouldn't brush Ludwig's request off like this. If she was just annoyed with him bothering her during her studies, her demeanor would be different, more careless, more hasty. This wasn't it.
"The situation isn't quite so simple, Miss..." he didn't know her name, but he had to find it out one way or another. It could come in useful. "He hardly knows me, I'm... Somewhat a stranger to him. Perhaps that is the reason why he refuses to contact me, and yet I desire to change this situation."
"What can you tell me about Wolfgang?" He had his doubts that his words had softened the girl at all. Ludwig had never been good with words or expressing his feelings, it wasn't something his father had ever indulged. But, maybe...?

the state of dreaming
Of course it wasn't so simple. Isobel knew that. She could never forget it--not between the Boggart and the blazer and the horrible, horrible day in the summer when Wolfgang had lost control of his emotions in a way she had never expected. But this, too, she had never expected--Wolfgang said that his brother was far away, that he hadn't seen him in years, that hopefully he never would.
And Isobel, knowing how much it frightened him, had hoped the same.
"Miss Linwood," she said, curtly. "You know, I have siblings, and if one of them were staying away from me, I would personally consider if I'd done something wrong." Perhaps that wasn't the truth of how she would actually act--but that was because with her sisters, it was different. To her knowledge, she hadn't supported anyone evil and abusive. If she had--well, she hoped she would stop doing so.
But with the Kallenbachs, she knew the story. Perhaps she could lead him astray somehow--it might get some innocent classmate of hers mistaken for Wolfgang, but there were worse things in the world, weren't there? It wasn't like Ludwig knew the whole truth, right?
"He's a Gryffindor," she started, "and he's very outgoing, and a bit of a prankster, I'm sure you wouldn't find him here in the library." Let's make it safe for him to study once in a while. "I'm sorry to say that I can't get you into their tower though. I'm a Slytherin."
"That might be the case, but won't waste your time with the details of our relationship. They are not relevant, miss Linwood," he stated, firmly shoving a book back into the shelf, a tinge of annoyance in his voice. He knew very well that things weren't good between and his younger brother, and he didn't need some girl reminding him with every breath she took. He was starting to think that this conversation was going nowhere once more, but then she finally spoke about him.
A prankster? Ludwig's eyebrows twitched upwards in surprise. That... Did not seem like the Wolfgang he had once known. That Wolfgang had kept to himself, nose in his books, tinkering away on muggle devices in his bedroom. But that had been a good 5 years ago. Many things had changed since, and, if Mother continued to be as attached to Johann as she had been when they were younger, Ludwig couldn't deny the possibility that Wolfgang had started acting out as a way to draw attention to himself.
Yes, that felt plausible. It had been the first solid thing he had gotten out of anyone, and he was going to pursue the lead.
"Thank you for the information. Have a good day." That was all he said, turning around and leaving, gears turning in his head on how to find Wolfgang in the midst of all the Gryffindor students. He'll give it a few days, perhaps they'd stumble into each other in the Great Hall, and if not, the Gryffindor table was right there. Yes, felt like a solid plan.
