With the capture of Verandi Farley and several high-ranking Trossach members, the British wizarding world has finally caught a break. The rate of rogue werewolf attacks have started dropping at a steady rate and, hopefully, things will stay that way. The Ministry is starting to loosen some restrictions, like not arresting werewolves standing on the street for loitering, however there’s still an obvious power imbalance between wizardfolk and werewolves.
The Cotswolds pack are continuing to advocate for the rights of werewolves and petitioning to change the legislation that has been set in motion by the current Minister for Magic, whilst the remaining Trossachs members are trying to stay out of the spotlight and keep a low profile… for now.
Whilst the British wizarding world seems to have calmed down, the same cannot be said for over in Northern Europe where a rebellion of magical creatures has risen. The state of things has gotten so bad that the European Ministry has enacted protocols to protect those under eighteen whilst their adult witches and wizards fight to keep control of their countries.
Students from Durmstrang have been sent to Hogwarts to keep them safe and those not old enough to attend school have been sent to live with relatives or designated British Ministry officials outside of Europe for the time being.
Will the low rates of werewolf attacks in Britain continue? How long will Durmstrang students stay at Hogwarts? Will the creatures usurp the wizardfolk in Northern Europe? Only time will tell.
SEPTEMBER 2019 It's been a very long, eventful summer in the wizarding world. A baby was stolen, several high ranking Trossach members were imprisoned, and werewolf attacks have drastically dropped as a result. What will happen now school has returned?
MAY 2019 An attempt to capture the beta of the Trossachs has been launched. Were the Aurors successful in their mission? Go read more here!

nothing comes for free
Over the summer, it was easy not to think about Edmund Rosaline. Katrin had other things to occupy her mind--no matter if some of them were things she preferred not to think about. She'd returned his jacket, so there was no need to owl him about anything, and besides, it was nice not to have to deal with his loudmouth of a twin brother. Though the incessant noise of all her siblings did rival that of the Gryffindors sometimes...
But coming back to school meant seeing all of her classmates again, and while the sight of most of their faces made Katrin want to become a Beater just so she could have an excuse to hit them, there was one that she'd ended up looking at for almost the whole feast.
She kept trying to come up with good reasons why, because Katrin Tyrell did not just stare at people like a particularly stupid owl. She wasn't like that. Edmund was a classmate and perhaps even a friend, and she was just happy to have a friend around again. That was that.
Besides, it was silly to think about him now, as she didn't see him in the common room. She told herself she would think about him only when he appeared again, as she turned her attention to her books. It might only have been the first week of the term, but it was never too early to get a head start on things. There were professors to impress, after all.
Edmund's summer was the worst of all summers. It was the summer his body decided it was time for everything to change. There was growing pains, his voice dropping into lower registers which made him sound less of a squeaky toy yet it didn't feel like it was worth the endless teasing, his brother luckily had gone through the same phase and yet they were still identical in every way, it was scary. Now they were back at Hogwarts and Edmund actually did look forward to higher learning, if that is what they're doing.
The boy was returning from his library trip, the new librarian making him wonder what society he came from because Edmund just felt like he was going to be one of those people that were going to ruin this school year that has yet to start. They were now hosts to barbarians and he didn't like that one bit either. With a small sigh he entered the Slytherin common room carrying three books in his arms and looked around for a seat to hide himself in so he could drown into these books without a worry in the world.
As he looked around he spotted Katrin Tyrell, the one girl he couldn't seem to not think of and ended up running into all the time. With a neutral expression on his face he seated himself and placed his books down before turning his attention to her more. She was also buried in a book and for a moment he was debating whether or not it'd be rude to disturb her then he remembered that it was rude not to greet someone instead. "Good day Katrin." he said instead and gave her one of his charming smiles attached to said greeting.
At least he could be polite and talk to her if she wished to speak to him. Edmund picked a book up and opened it in his lap.

That... was that Edmund's voice? It was his face for sure, but Katrin was realizing that she hadn't heard him speak yet this year, and she hadn't expected his voice to get that deep. It was--it was nice because it suited him, Katrin thought, that was all. And she shouldn't be surprised, she told herself. Even she had grown taller over the summer, although, frustratingly, not by much.
Even more frustrating, though, was that Edmund's voice made her feel warm, but not warm like the fireplace in the corner, a kind of warm that she didn't remember feeling since sitting with him out on the grounds back in May.
"Hi, Edmund," she said, giving him one of her real smiles, not the kind that she usually directed at her classmates when they said something particularly stupid in class and she had to keep her mouth shut just to avoid getting detention. Her fingers played with the page of her book, her brain telling her to keep talking even as she didn't know exactly what to say.
Well, there was one thing that she could ask him, even if it made her sound like a professor who was more concerned with playing boring get-to-know-you games than actually teaching anything. Still, it was only polite to ask. "How was your summer? Peaceful, I hope?"
Edmund had to confess that until he saw her, he barely thought about Katrin. Not because he didn't like her, he liked her a lot and it was driving him crazy actually but because he was going through so many other things and without actually having the time to write her, or a reason for that matter, he simply didn't think of her. Was that a bad thing? How should he know? He never thought about girls before. Edmund still didn't know how to think of girls other than being human beings just like him.
He wasn't his sister with the loose lips that seems to stick to everyone else's all the time. There were words for that kind of behavior but he didn't like to think of his sister in that particular manner. Edmund arched his brow a little and looked at Katrin. Did she grow out her hair? It seems longer than he remembered and he remembers lots of things.. or is he imagining it now because he also imagines lots of things. "It was like any other, I grew a bit more but that is to be expected," he answered with a slight smile of his own. "How was yours? Did you grow out your hair? It looks.. nice.." he didn't know why he was even complimenting her right now. He had charms he used but he didn't really think he was being charming right now? Unless he is and didn't notice? But she did look nice, at least for another human being of the female species. "Are you also catching up on studies before the classes begin?"

Katrin knew that she should be giving Edmund the side-eye. She hated when boys gave compliments like that--reminding her that the only thing in the world most of them cared about was making sure girls dropped their pants. And she knew firsthand how many troubles that caused. She had always promised herself that she wouldn't listen, that she wasn't going to be like her parents who let themselves be ruled by--animal instincts.
So the reason that she wasn't upset that Edmund was admiring her hair was only that he had never struck her as the type to flirt excessively. He was an intelligent person, who cared about books and science and all the important things like that, so it was okay that he made comments on her hair.
"Yes, a little bit," she said, tossing a lock of her hair behind her shoulder. "I'm glad you like it." She sat up a little straighter, adjusting her clothes. "I thought it might be important to get a head start on things, now that I have all my books for the term. I want to be prepared for whatever we'll be doing." They were in higher level classes this year, plus she was planning to switch one of her electives to Dark Arts, now that the Durmstrang professors were here, and she wanted to make sure she'd be ready for that too.
Edmund wasn't a blind person, he could see things and notice stuff that other people often let pass by. Edmund had an eye for detail and so Katrin's hair always smelled nice and was now longer which according to him meant the nice smell would last longer. Whenever they'd sit in class he could catch the scent of her perfume, soap or whatever the nice smell was and it fit her perfectly. Like how paint spots fits with his sister and dirt with his brother.
"Preparation is the best method so I do not blame you for wanting to be prepared." Edmund gave her a nod, understanding her thought process. "I already read up on most of the new books we have to go through, I must admit that it is still quite basic don't you think?" he asked her, curious about her thoughts on the new books. Edmund was getting curiouser by the day and though it should bother him, it did not.
"What electives have you chosen? I am sticking to those that matter to possible future plans. I do not want to be excluded from important choices." Edmund thought he sounded quite logical though he felt like he had to explain every word for some reason, maybe he hung out with his brother and sister for too long.

"I understand. I picked Arithmancy and Ancient Runes. Everything else seemed too simple." Or simply too unpleasant. Katrin didn't think there would be anything worth learning about in Muggle Studies or Divination. And taking the risk of getting bitten by something in Care of Magical Creatures sounded highly distasteful. Really, there weren't that many options that were good. That's why she'd been so excited about the Dark Arts professor showing up. If there was a chance she could learn something useful about hexes, she would.
"And how about you? It would be nice if we could be in the same ones." Not that they needed to see each other so often, but, Katrin thought, better that they have each other than deal with their classmates alone. "But don't your plans have to do with Astronomy? I don't know which of the classes would be best for that. Most of them seem like fluff. That's why I was so excited for the Dark Arts."
