With the capture of Verandi Farley and several high-ranking Trossach members, the British wizarding world has finally caught a break. The rate of rogue werewolf attacks have started dropping at a steady rate and, hopefully, things will stay that way. The Ministry is starting to loosen some restrictions, like not arresting werewolves standing on the street for loitering, however there’s still an obvious power imbalance between wizardfolk and werewolves.
The Cotswolds pack are continuing to advocate for the rights of werewolves and petitioning to change the legislation that has been set in motion by the current Minister for Magic, whilst the remaining Trossachs members are trying to stay out of the spotlight and keep a low profile… for now.
Whilst the British wizarding world seems to have calmed down, the same cannot be said for over in Northern Europe where a rebellion of magical creatures has risen. The state of things has gotten so bad that the European Ministry has enacted protocols to protect those under eighteen whilst their adult witches and wizards fight to keep control of their countries.
Students from Durmstrang have been sent to Hogwarts to keep them safe and those not old enough to attend school have been sent to live with relatives or designated British Ministry officials outside of Europe for the time being.
Will the low rates of werewolf attacks in Britain continue? How long will Durmstrang students stay at Hogwarts? Will the creatures usurp the wizardfolk in Northern Europe? Only time will tell.
SEPTEMBER 2019 It's been a very long, eventful summer in the wizarding world. A baby was stolen, several high ranking Trossach members were imprisoned, and werewolf attacks have drastically dropped as a result. What will happen now school has returned?
MAY 2019 An attempt to capture the beta of the Trossachs has been launched. Were the Aurors successful in their mission? Go read more here!

It had been a long day. There was nothing more that Padma wanted to do than go home, take a hot bath, and collapse into bed to rest up for the next day's work--because the next day off didn't seem like it was coming soon enough. Working at a hospital, there was never a time when patients didn't need care, only times when she would have to leave their care to someone else for the day.
But going home would mean leaving her plans for dinner with Cho for another time, and she'd already had to reschedule once. And it wasn't good for her to not see her friends, Padma thought. It would make her ruminate in her own mind, reliving the attack over and over just like she feared. So, after changing out of her healer robes, she had splashed water on her face and told the Floo Network to take her to the Leaky Cauldron.
It was sort of late for dinnertime, the inn not as full as Padma was used to during most of her trips to Diagon Alley, but at least it made finding a table easy, as she chose one near the edge of the room and placed her bag on the seat next to her. Her stomach was growling, but she'd wait for Cho before she ordered anything. It was only polite.
Merlin above, but she was exhausted. Come to that, she was always exhausted these days, and it wasn't doing her any good at all, but what else could she do? There were things that had to be done; the ward grew busier by the day, and it was hardly the fault of her patients if they were overstretched. She needed more staff; come to that, she needed a bigger ward and more resources generally, but these things took time if they happened at all, and Cho wasn't convinced that they would. She couldn't remember the last time she'd eaten a meal at home; come to that, she couldn't remember the last time she'd done anything at home but sleep. She was better at it when the children were there, of course, but as it was, there was no sense in sitting around in an empty house when there was work to be done.
Tonight, though, she'd made a concession to the spirit of work life balance (ha ha) and had actually done her best to finish on time so that she could go out with Padma. It hadn't actually happened, of course, but five minutes late was a bloody miracle compared to the times that she'd been leaving work recently, and a brief pause to freshen up in the staff toilets was all that she needed before she found herself sitting down at a table next to her old schoolmate. "Sorry I'm late," she apologised, hanging her cloak over the back of her chair. "You know how things are."

"Don't worry about it. I do know, very well." Despite how tired she was, Padma could give a genuine smile at her friend. They had chosen a demanding career, one with long hours and high stakes, but Padma couldn't say she regretted it. Every day she could go to work and help heal people instead of cause any more pain to the world--though, she thought with a heavy feeling in her stomach, she hadn't been able to protect them from the attackers. Even if, physically, nobody had gotten more than a small bruise, the permanent residents of her ward were having trouble understanding what had happened.
Did they know what hurt they had caused? Had they wanted to cause so much? And why, to innocent people?
"I'm glad you have made it, though. I'm starving." Padma glanced toward the bar, trying to see if she could wave someone over for them to put in an order. Hannah, who owned the inn, was another of their friends from Dumbledore's Army, and while Padma had a bit of envy for how happy her family life seemed to be, she couldn't begrudge her that. They all deserved some happiness. "How have things been on your end, then? We're holding up alright, but Lockhart keeps thinking there's going to be some sort of attack by what seems to be a new creature every day. I feel awful; he's usually so cheerful." She sighed, tucking a piece of long dark hair behind her ear.
"You're not the only one," Cho assured the other woman with a grin. Merlin, now that she came to think of it, when had she last eaten? She'd had breakfast, she was very nearly certain, but that had been quite some time ago now, and she didn't remember lunch. Maybe she'd had a sandwich or something; it was difficult to recall considering that her own needs were always bottom of the list while she was working on the ward, balancing a hundred and one different problems at once and trying to keep her Healers from arguing with each other, which was not always an easy task.
She took a moment to settle in her seat, brushing off her robes and crossing her legs under the table. Relaxing wasn't something she was very good at, and she was fairly sure she'd need the assistance of a glass of wine, but Cho didn't doubt that that could be arranged. "Opinions are divided, just like everywhere else. Most of them seem to be coping all right, but then a lot of my patients seem to spend half the time in their own heads anyway." She sighed. It really wasn't helpful, but it was at least understandable, especially in the current situation. Being told that you were a werewolf was never a pleasant experience, but these days, it basically amounted to the end of any hopes or dreams that you might have had. "It is what it is."

Hanging out with Cho was so refreshing. Sure, Padma was unloading some of the stress of work, but she didn't have to worry about anything, not when she was simply talking to her friend instead of organizing the workings of the entire ward. "Shall we have some wine with dinner?" she asked as she finally managed to call Hannah over to take their order. "Or mead? I feel like I would enjoy either right now." That was a specialty of the Leaky, and since she didn't really drink it at home, she'd love to take the chance to have a bit of the sweet beverage.
"I do wish we had more training on how to help people cope," she said once Hannah had left with their order. When people came into the hospital with something permanent, the Healers would be able to help them out physically, but then when their whole lives changed, who was there to help? Sometimes Padma wondered, when thinking about the patients in her ward, if it was better for the ones who didn't understand what had been done to them. "But then I remember--we're the Healers-in-Charge now. We're the ones who have to figure out what to tell them." It was great for her Gringotts vault to have such a good position, but Padma knew that so much responsibility fell on her shoulders. "I hope your Healers are doing alright as well."
"Whichever you prefer," Cho told her friend, somewhat abstractedly. Truth be told, there was still a part of her that was lingering on the ward. Of course she couldn't be there all the time; it would be physically impossible and probably counterproductive besides, but that didn't mean that she didn't want to, and these days, it seemed to her to be more important than ever, with the increased number of cases and the fact that the Ministry seemed to be going out of its way to make life as difficult as possible. Regrettably, that didn't really make much difference. Things were what they were, and there was nothing that she or anyone else at the hospital could do to change it.
Training. Ha. The brunette paused to take a moment to consider whether any diplomatic response was possible, and then elected to do the best that she could. "I'm not so sure this is the kind of thing they can train you for." That kind of situation was, so far as Cho was concerned, something that you picked up through experience rather than sitting in an overheated room being lectured for a few hours, because no set of notes could ever really convey the scale of heartbreak that she seemed to have to deal with on a daily basis. "And they're... we're coping. More or less." That was what you had to do in difficult situations- grit your teeth and do the best that you could.

"I suppose you're right." Padma sighed. She liked when things could be trained for, prepared for. But who was out there figuring out the correct response to your hospital ward being attacked? It was unheard of. Then again, attacking a school seemed like an incredible horror as well, and yet Hogwarts had been attacked more times than Padma wanted to count, when she'd been there and before and after as well. There was something truly reprehensible about going after children and sick people--which was probably why the Death Eaters and the werewolf pack had done it.
It wasn't what she'd wanted to think about, after her shift had ended, but even at dinner with her friend, the thoughts didn't seem to leave her. The worry was always there, whether in the front or back of her mind. "I'm glad to hear you're coping. I'm sure things will return to normal eventually--it just breaks my heart to see the patients struggling with it, you know?" She accepted the glass of mead that had been brought to her, taking a sip. Sweet and good, and she hoped it would get her to relax a little. "I just want to see the country safe again. I don't want our children to have to take the measures we did."
"It does happen occasionally," Cho agreed with a slight smile. To be honest, she wasn't sure that it happened nearly as often as it used to, and she had the distinct impression that her judgement was suffering more and more with each new event, each new law, each new disaster or attack. It was not the best of responses, she would admit, but then everyone else seemed to react to these things so differently that she honestly could not tell whether she was the only bastion of sanity left in the world or whether she ought to be confined to St Mungo's herself.
She simply shook her head. "Nothing is ever permanent, Padma. Not war, not peace, not happiness." Sometimes, such a thought was comforting; more often, it was worrying. Working where she did, Cho was amongst the first to see the results of any change in the tactics of the werewolves or in the Ministry's legislation, and she never knew what she was going to be dealing with from one day to the next. Of course, that was Healing, and she had certainly never gone into it with the expectation of an easy life, but even so...
"Things will calm down eventually." She hoped. It was a mystery as to when, or even why, but surely this couldn't go on forever.
