Quirks and Habits:
- When Jack is conversing with his students or fellow colleagues over Defense Against the Dark Arts, he gets very into it. It's his life's passion, after all.
- Usually you can tell when he's talking about Defense Against the Dark Arts because he leans back against his desk, relaxing into it as he moves his hands around, gesticulating as he talks.
- Sometimes when asked a bit of a probing question that requires more thought, Jack strokes his growing stubble as he ponders over the question until he reaches his answer.
- Jack most definitely has a coffee addiction, to the point where he keeps coffee making utensils in his office when he needs a quick caffeine hit.
- Jack sends very regular owls to the Ministry of Magic, trying to appeal to aurors to not support the current regime of cracking down on werewolves. A lot of the time, these owls get thrown away or more notably, get set on fire.

Dislikes: Students disrupting his class, tea, baking, smoking, the Ministry of Magic
Boggart: His little sister being attacked by a werewolf all over again

history
1992 - When Jack is 11 years old, he receives his letter for Hogwarts. Growing up in a home with a half-blood father and muggleborn mother and having shown his first signs of magic young, he's not surprised but he's very excited because he finally gets to go to Hogwarts. He's a little relieved as well because he gets a break from the family farm (located in Northern Ireland) and his one year old sister Maggie as well. He just really hopes that he'll end up being sorted into Gryffindor, just like his parents both were... and when he goes to Hogwarts and the sorting hat is placed on his head, he refuses to let the sorting hat consider any other house. He's going to be a Gryffindor, he insists on it. The sorting hat decides with a stubborn streak a mile long, there's no other house more suited to Jack than Gryffindor. Jack hopes that in ten years when Maggie comes to Hogwarts, she'll be sorted into the same house as the rest of the family.
1997 - Jack returns to Hogwarts and his sixth year is, to put it nicely, absolute
hell.
During a Muggle Studies class led by the Carrows, the students were expected to echo the their sentiment that muggles were the root of all evil and a Hufflepuff girl refused to do. She was dragged to the front of the class so the other students could practice some pain-inducing spells on her and Jack stood up to tell the Carrows that what they were doing was wrong. He was told,
'If you're such a martyr, Jack O'Connor, then come sacrifice yourself instead.' Jack, being Jack, went up and some of the students with less of a moral high ground took turns on him, but he refused to make a single sound. The Carrows didn't like that and so they took him down to the dungeons to make an example of him. They locked him up, taking turns torturing him and using the
cruciatus spell on him. It went on for days until somehow, Madam Pomfrey was allowed to go and check on him. She convinced them that his back was getting infected and if they didn't let him go, then they'd have the death of a sixteen year old on their hands. She was the reason he was set free, and he's been eternally grateful to her for that.
May 1998 - At 16 years old and whilst Jack is in his sixth year at Hogwarts, the Battle of Hogwarts breaks out. Jack had been apart of Dumbledore's Army with a few of his classmates, and so naturally he wants to fight alongside them. He ends up with a great big scar across his face but other than that, he comes out unharmed. Whilst happy that the good guys won, he mourns the loss of several of his friends for years.
1998 - After the war, Jack started to have nightmares but chalked that up to having gone through hell. He'd wake up in cold sweats every couple of nights, however when he returned to Hogwarts for his seventh year then it was more like every night instead
if he managed to get to sleep in the first place. He wasn't able to walk past the Muggle Studies classroom for months, let alone stomach going down to the dungeons.
When McGonagall picked up on what was happening, she sent him to Madam Pomfrey who diagnosed him with something the muggles called PTSD. Jack began therapy, flooing to St. Mungos once a week to talk to healers who started to help him heal.
2003 - At 22 years old, Jack applies for the recent opening of Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor at Hogwarts. He walks into his interview with Professor McGonagall, as calm and confident as ever, but thinks he blows it on some of the question. But after all is said and done, she congratulates him because he got the job. Jack waits until he's flooed back home into his apartment to let out a loud 'whoop!' and do a congratulatory dance.
2010 - 29 year old Jack takes his sister, Maggie, out for a couple of drinks to celebrate her new job as a healer in training at St. Mungos and his recently acquired position of Head of Gryffindor. When the two wrap up for the night, Jack and Maggie decide to take a leisurely walk back to her apartment, deciding to breath in the early morning air instead of apparating. This turns out to be the worst decision of Jack's life because as he watches Maggie climb up the stairs to her front door, she's suddenly pounced on by a rogue werewolf. Jack manages to get the werewolf off her and subdue them, alerting the authorities in the process, but it's too late. Maggie has been bitten and come the next full moon, she will transform into a werewolf. When their parents find out, they blame Jack. He's the older brother, he should have been faster, better, and never should have let this happen in the first place.
2016 - Everything goes wrong... everything. A werewolf student escapes from the lockdown facility in Hogwarts and attacks a bunch of students. Three are killed, two are bitten. This devastates the community as a whole and the prejudice against werewolves only grows. Jack understands why, but he hates it. A few werewolves actions don't speak for the entire werewolf community.
Things only continue to grow worse. Hogwarts is no longer declared 'safe' as long as students who are werewolves attend, and Jack's heart breaks as he watches several of his own students be cast out of the place a lot refer to as their 'second home.' Maggie loses her job as healer from St. Mungos, and it's only thanks to their parents and Jack's continuous paychecks that she doesn't completely go into poverty.
2018 - School goes back, and Jack worries for the werewolf community as a home especially as the new anti-werewolf legislation continues to grow. He hopes that his sister remains safe, as well as his ex-students.
