With the capture of Verandi Farley and several high-ranking Trossach members, the British wizarding world has finally caught a break. The rate of rogue werewolf attacks have started dropping at a steady rate and, hopefully, things will stay that way. The Ministry is starting to loosen some restrictions, like not arresting werewolves standing on the street for loitering, however there’s still an obvious power imbalance between wizardfolk and werewolves.
The Cotswolds pack are continuing to advocate for the rights of werewolves and petitioning to change the legislation that has been set in motion by the current Minister for Magic, whilst the remaining Trossachs members are trying to stay out of the spotlight and keep a low profile… for now.
Whilst the British wizarding world seems to have calmed down, the same cannot be said for over in Northern Europe where a rebellion of magical creatures has risen. The state of things has gotten so bad that the European Ministry has enacted protocols to protect those under eighteen whilst their adult witches and wizards fight to keep control of their countries.
Students from Durmstrang have been sent to Hogwarts to keep them safe and those not old enough to attend school have been sent to live with relatives or designated British Ministry officials outside of Europe for the time being.
Will the low rates of werewolf attacks in Britain continue? How long will Durmstrang students stay at Hogwarts? Will the creatures usurp the wizardfolk in Northern Europe? Only time will tell.
SEPTEMBER 2019 It's been a very long, eventful summer in the wizarding world. A baby was stolen, several high ranking Trossach members were imprisoned, and werewolf attacks have drastically dropped as a result. What will happen now school has returned?
MAY 2019 An attempt to capture the beta of the Trossachs has been launched. Were the Aurors successful in their mission? Go read more here!
Merlin above, that hurt like all kinds of things that her mother would never have allowed her to mention in polite company, and Skye was not at all happy about it. A brief effort to shift her position in the bed ever so slightly was hastily abandoned with a few muttered curses as a stabbing pain shot through her ribs and right down through her belly. It didn't look as if playing Quidditch was going to feature heavily in her future. Not that it would have done anyway, of course, but the choice would have been there, and that was what mattered.
She was still furious with herself for having been so stupid as to end up here in the first place. Hogwarts was a vast castle with all kinds of magical pitfalls for the unwary, it was true, and so Skye honestly could not believe that, with all these exciting possibilities for personal injury before her, she had gone and fallen down the stairs, which she could have done anywhere. Well, except a bungalow, obviously. Still, there was no help for it now; here she was, and, by the looks of it, here she would be staying for the foreseeable future. It was not an inviting prospect; though she was never the most active of people, the redhead did at least like to have the ability to move if she so chose.
It stung, it hurt and most of all, it was something she should've seen coming. With her big blue eyes feeling fogged up from the tears, Cassidy headed for the hospital wing. The last thing she wanted was her mother to see her like this. A quaffle thrown right into her direction and before she could react it hit her right in the face. Cassidy held her hand against her bright red cheek and her other hand covered her broken nose. She didn't want a broken nose, she didn't want her nose to become crooked because of it.
Small sobs came from the girl as she entered the hospital wing, looking for the matron. Cassidy hated to have her mother hear about this and almost froze in her tracks when she saw her roommate. Oh god she was going to tell Casey.. and Casey would tell her mother. Cassidy was about to make a full on turn out of there faster than roadrunner could meep meep but then the matron appeared and sat her down on the bed beside Skye. The girl sniffled and whined at the pain that caused as she sat there.
The matron started to work on her nose and with a small crack sound that made shivers go down Cassidy's spine, her nose was healed. "Now you rest that face missy." the matron told her as she walked off to get something for the blood and her cheek. Cassidy turned her attention to Skye and bit her lip. "What happened to you? Are you okay?" she asked and looked down at her feet, dangling a little above the floor. Cassidy wasn't the tallest of the bunch. "Please don't tell my mum.."
The sound of sobbing was one to which Skye was more accustomed than she might have wished, so that it didn't take her more than a moment or so to recognise it and to glance up from her intensive contemplation of her fingernails to see who it was. At which point, she hastily returned her attention to her hands, despite being well aware by now that there was not the slightest thing wrong with them. Oh, Merlin... It was Cassie.
Generally speaking, the redhead could deal with the brunette's presence without more than a rising sensation of pins and needles in the centre of her soul, which was quite unnerving the first few times that one experienced it. But every so often, as now, she was taken unawares, and on those occasions, she found herself having to fight back a blush. Merlin only knew why that should be the case; it wasn't as if she had been caught in some compromising situation, and she certainly wasn't in the midst of some wistful train of thought regarding the other girl, but nevertheless, Cassidy's mere presence was quite enough to send her pulse climbing and push an extra tint of redness into her cheeks. By no means an ideal situation, especially not as now, when she was sure that her roommate would want to make conversation.
"I was stupid; fell down the bloody stairs," she confessed somewhat sheepishly, gaze roaming across Cass's face. "But how about you? What's the matter?"
Skye was such a sweet girl but she really didnt want her friend to tell her mother about this. Her mother would lose her mind and yell at the quidditch players when it was really her own fault. The blonde tried to ignore the stinging pain. Her bright blue eyes were looking at her friend who seemed in pain as well and Cassidy just felt silly for being here. When Skye told her what happened a soft gasp came from Cassidy's lips, gosh people could get hurt so easily couldn't they?
"I well.." she ran a hand through her hair. "I am so sorry you fell, are you hurt bad?" she asked and bit her lip as she tried to answer Skye's question, her mind trying to find answers that make sense. "I well.." she cleared her throat. "I wanted to make photos of the pitch and players were busy so I was watching them..." she said and looked down in shame. "A quaffle was thrown but the other player couldn't catch it on time.. it hit me here.." she pointed at her red cheek and eyed Skye through her eyelashes.
The redhead shook her head. "Nah, a few days and I'll be good as new." Well, she thought so, anyway; the Healer hadn't actually got around to looking at her yet, but Skye was sure that it would be fine; just a couple of bumps and bruises. It had been more embarrassing than anything else, though a few flights of steep stone steps were no laughing matter and especially not when they were given to all kinds of magical shenanigans. She'd nearly plummeted all the way to the ground floor, so far below, and that would have done her quite considerably more damage than tumbling down a flight or two. How far it had actually been, she wasn't sure; it was all a bit of a blur.
"It's... Well, it's not exactly the most brilliant thing I've ever heard," she conceded carefully, not wanting to offend a girl with whom she was still going to have to share a room for another couple of years. "But these things happen, right? Are you sure you're OK? That looks nasty..."
